Think memory foam mattresses are the game changer here, the bedbugs cant get in so cant infest them, or certainly not to the degree they can in with normal ones. Found this out when I stayed at a slightly ropey "Motor Inn" in San Francisco and noticed the mattresses were memory foam, though that was quite extravagant as they are pretty expensive, but then it probably cheaper than throwing normal ones away, pest control and bad reviews.

I was in the Sandman hotel in Calgary for work a few years back and woke up having been eaten by the little feckers, went to the desk and complained and was ushered to a quiet area where I got upgraded to a suite and got free evening meals, with drinks for the duration of my stay, work was paying so it didn't matter to me but the site was quite nice and free of parasites !

According to a Times Radio "expert" interviewed earlier, they spread by suitcase and will be everywhere in no time..!

Well, they haven't survived millions of years by being easy to get rid of.

Before I met my now Wife, one of her Sons came back from Oz, threw his stuff in a wardrobe and forgot about it.

Unfortunately he had brought bedbugs back with him, basically any soft furnishing, carpets, clothes, were ruined.

It cost £,000,s to fix the damage with numerous pest controller visits.

And the wee st that caused it just shrugged his shoulders.

The Mrs still has a phobia about them ...

What did you expect? He likely wouldn't have known his stuff was infested and he's no more at fault for getting infested than you are.

Despite their name, bed bugs don’t limit their activity to beds. They can be in any soft furnishing, in wardrobes, under skirtings. Anywhere.

They are not easy or cheap to get rid of, and they have the creepy crawly yuck factor in spades.

The best way we have found to get rid of them is heat treatment.

But we really don’t want the French exporting this particular problem.

Do those mattress protectors that cover the whole mattress help, or can they get through those too?

Not really. They are just as likely to take up residence in the bed frame, divan base, other furniture etc.

I stayed in a 'hotel' in India a few years back: it was like a parasite/insect zoo in the mattress & the bedding was heavily stained with a bright yellow fluid of unknown origin. I pointed this out to the receptionist who shrugged & gave me a different room. Less bedding stains, but just as many bugs, not to mention the live electrical wires sticking through the wall inside the bathroom right next to the shower!!!! I had a rubbish night's sleep with some very unpleasant dreams.

Well, one is a blight brought about by a collection of odious blood-sucking insects, and the other is just some bed bugs?

Actually pretty easy to get rid of, provided you can find the ‘source’ of any re infection, and willing to live with some disruption for a bit.

Diatomaceous Earth Worked well after we moved into a new house that had an infestation..L..they had an old fur coat they’d left in the loft, and we traced it to that in the end.
