There has been a facebook reel doing the rounds this week with the video, and many people were commenting that the issuing person had run out of medals and went back to get more just as the video was cut.
Clearly not the case though.
Probably just as bad then, why skip her.Clearly not the case though.
Logically they go in order, get to the last girl and medals have run out.
Then go back and get some more.
Horrible all around from them.

A lot of people were very quick to jump on this but the lady in question has said it was an honest mistake…if she is actually racist to do what she did in such an overt fashion with cameras around wouldn’t be very smart.
Good point by why skip by her at the start, although the issuer does seem a bit distracted.RSbandit said:

There's probably a term for completely unknowing racism such as the lady in waiting asking "where do you to really come from?". My guess is that the person handing out the medals simply looked past the black girl and didn't even make a conscious decision about whether to give her a medal or not. It's not even like it was her decision to make because the girl had won the medal anyway. I hope this doesn't go down the road of just picking on the person handing out the medals as if she is the problem. Ingrained racism in society is the problem. And that's more than just "institutional racism" because it's not about institutions either. RSbandit said:

Given the response by those involved and the fact it took so long for the official body to issue an apology and pass on the apology the person involved wrote just after the event it suggests to me there is a significant issue that needs to be addressed. Hopefully the global governing body might be able to focus some minds by reminding them of their responsibilities and the sanctions possible should they forget.I'm afraid i am not buying the honest mistake line, for me that only passes muster if the official was blind, imo of course.
Get a grip. There is no bloody way that the medal awarding person did that out of racism.
If you wanted to be racist you'd find a more subtle way to do it than that, and if you chose to do it in that blatant way you'd want it to be noticed so you wouldn't deny it afterwards.
I bet the the presenting woman has given dozens of medals to people of all races.

Yep, it's the same as "the council" "the government" "the corporation" excuse. It's an attempt at absolving the individuals that actually make the decisions under those umbrellas of responsibility.BikeBikeBIke said:

Ok, let's give her the benefit of the doubt. How many people went forward to point out her mistake while she was handing out the rest of the medals ? We don't know because the clip is cut but I'd be bloody amazed if the parents at least didn't nip in and say "excuse me you forgot our daughter". They were handing out sticky spiders at Beavers on Tuesday and my son got forgotten and I just asked them and they gave him one.The idea that everyone present was so racist that they couldn't bear to see a gymnast get a medal is tin foil helmet level of conspiracy. FFS if they were that bad they wouldn't have let her enter.
Again, what normally happens with minorities at those events?
It's just insane to think someone was so openly proudly racist that they made a point of showing it by refusing to hand a medal out and then just afterwards so ashamed of being racist that they denied it.
Event was Gymstart March 2022. Video from nearer the time showing her with both her her medals: (2:03)

Medal was awarded immediately, before the girl left the Field of Play (FoP):

I've no idea of the provenance of this but the outfit is the same:

Of every video on the internet right now, you think this is 'absolutely fked up'?
Do you rate all videos you see as either 'OK' or 'Absolutely fked up'?
I'm not sure what I think of the video is important.Do you rate all videos you see as either 'OK' or 'Absolutely fked up'?
What do you think about what happened to the girl in question?
Do you think it was racism or just an honest mistake that could happen to anyone?

That’s the rational way to view it…but we live in hysterical times unfortunately. The idea that everyone present was so racist that they couldn't bear to see a gymnast get a medal is tin foil helmet level of conspiracy. FFS if they were that bad they wouldn't have let her enter.
