A British Airways pilot has been sacked after he divulged to a colleague that he had taken cocaine off a woman’s bare breasts before attempting to embark on a long-haul flight.

Mike Beaton, of Devon, is said to have gloated to a stewardess about an alcohol and drug-fuelled night out in Johannesburg before his return to London.

But the stewardess subsequently reported him, and BA then delayed the flight until an alternative pilot could be found.

Beaton was suspended and flown home the following day as a passenger before undergoing a drug test at Heathrow. Class A drugs were found in his system and he was sacked.

He was scheduled to co-pilot the 12-hour flight back to the UK after a period of rest in South Africa four weeks ago.

However, after revealing intimate details of his escapades over text message to a fellow BA employee, he was stopped from flying the plane.

The pilot described partying with two local men, a female Welsh holidaymaker and a young Spanish woman in the messages.

According to The Sun, the pilot said: “We all walk (stagger) back up to the hotel bar for ‘one last one before bed’. Welsh and one of these guys is getting on very well, but she’s told him that I’m her boyfriend. Couple of drinks in the bar, bit of snogging, and then we’re somehow all on our way to this dude’s flat.

“I’ve lost my shirt somewhere and one of the local lads produces a plate with a few lines of coke. So then there’s a debate about whose chest is the best to do a bump off. That’s the story of how I ended up snorting coke off a girl’s t--s in Joburg.”“

He was probably all alone and made the story up to try and be cool. Turns out he's messed everything up now instead.

Probably. A friend in the industry made the joke...

"What does a pilot use as a contraceptive?"

"His personality"

He failed a drugs test after he was reported so wether the rest of it is true or not he was on drugs.

Disappointed that it didn't end with a plane flying upside down based on the title.

Young Women just thrown themselves at a man with a glamorous job like pilot or comedian. Will the future older wonan have a different view one day?
What would russell brand make of it all?

Hmmm.... when at uni 13 years ago I vaguely knew a junior pilot with the same name and very similar looks. Occam's razor would suggest it is he - a far cry from the sensible guy I knew who once waxed lyrical about how careful he had to be with not drinking ages before the start of a roster.

You would think pilots were routinely screened for drugs along with other professionals like doctors, police officers and so on.

I've never understood how being an airline pilot can be considered even remotely glamorous.

I've done a lot of international business travel in my career, and whilst it's certainly nice to be paid to see new places, and not having to do any work once I get there would be nice, I can't see how the actual flying part wouldn't become mind-numbingly tedious after a while - especially if you're an ex-military pilot used to chucking fast jets around - as you're essentially a glorified coach driver.

What's more, from the perspective of the young woman, yes, you'll doubtless get some great cheap holidays out of it, but for 48 weeks of the year, you're just getting left at home!

Daft sod. Should’ve just enjoyed it but had to go off bragging to anyone that would listen.

The stewardess he told had no choice but to report him and absolutely did the right thing. Imagine how she’d have felt if his plane crashed killing 300 people. And with his texts on her phone just waiting for the crash investigators to find.

I doubt he’ll be dropping his landing gear anywhere near his wife in the near future either.

TLDR keep your gob shut in future

Odd post. In one sentence you're saying he should just have taken coke and kept his mouth shut, and the next you're implying it's wrong and imagine if he crashed the plane killing 300 people.

Don’t be so fecking stupid.

If he was going to take the coke anyway, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop him, then he should have kept his mouth shut about it. That’s what I’m saying ffs.

I am not condoning his taking of the coke prior to flying the plane and potentially putting hundreds of lives at risk.

Honestly I thought that would go without saying.

Not really an odd stance, you can hold two separate opinions at the same time

1) If you doing something illegal/immoral and don't want to suffer consequences then you are an idiot if you tell people about it
2) If you are doing something illegal/immoral you are an idiot and deserve what is coming to you

To be honest I read it the same way as jan8p. It came across as though if you were his manager you would've sacked him more for ruining everyone else's fun by being stupid enough to put it in writing.

I honestly also read your post as meaning the issue was telling people about it. ... "Should’ve just enjoyed it but had to go off bragging to anyone that would listen". That does come across a little like condoning taking coke, and enjoying it, before flying.

But I'm sure that isn't how you had intended it to come across.
