I think we need to accept the fact that people have always looked to move around the globe and history revolves around that. With both the increased spread of information via the internet and forthcoming challenges of climate change it's impossible to stop. We need to make the best of it.
Anyway, is Suella Braverman part of the proof it's failed?

Not that I have a huge amount of time for her, but to be fair multiculturalism has a specific set of characteristics which could be problematic, and to be anti multiculturalism is not the same as being anti immigrant.
Multiculturalism “seeks the inclusion of the views and contributions of diverse members of society while maintaining respect for their differences and withholding the demand for their assimilation into the dominant culture”.

I’ve always found it a bit mad that assimilation shouldn’t be an explicit aim if you are going to advocate high levels of immigration. And to be fair there are plenty of waves of immigrants that have done just that.

The problem with that point of view is that it presupposes that the dominant culture is better than that which you are importing, or any hybrid thereof.A healthy culture is one which evolves and takes the best of everything, and acknowledges that there is always a better way. Crucially, it accepts that "we've always done it that way" is the worst reason to do, or continue to do, anything. A culture which demands that you look like everything that is already there is one that has already stagnated and is doomed to decline.

A well reasoned response, thank you.Multiculturalism “seeks the inclusion of the views and contributions of diverse members of society while maintaining respect for their differences and withholding the demand for their assimilation into the dominant culture”.
