Do we / should we care much? It seems this happens on a fairly regular basis. It no doubt adds to instability in that part of the world though…..

The armenians who are on the receiving end are more allied to the russians so no one here is going to care overmuch one suspects and Turkey will be allowed a pretty free hand to help Azerbaijan do whatever they like....

Well we might end up caring if they try and finish the job they started in 1915.

Russia has completely abandoned Armenia, and Armenia has recently twigged this, woken up, and is appealing for help from other countries now. Russia has, to its former credit, pretty much been keeping a lid on this situation (fairly badly, but with a limited amount of success in avoiding all out annihilation of people) for 30 years now, but because of its idiotic invasion of Ukraine has now had to pull the plug on Armenia.

I was in Baku in 1991, where I witnessed an Armenian man being identified by a crowd of ordinary locals on a railway station platform, and subsequently beaten and kicked across the platform and down an escalator, to what I presume was his end. I didn't stick around to find out. One of the worst experiences of my life. Now it seems this fate will be dished out to the whole of Nagorno-Karabakh. I can't imagine anyone is going to prevent it this time, Azerbaijan have been hell bent on taking the territory for 30 years and this is their best chance.

Tragic.

Arguably after the 2020 war where Armenia got quite a kicking already, it would (or should) have been clear to them that the russians weren't going to step in to help them in a meaningful way. Ultimately, the russians simply didn't care quite enough about the armenians and certainly not to the extent at that region that Turkey are happy to be backing up the azeris (and that assumes they aren't actually the ones implicitly directing things already.....)

Well, when there's absolutely nobody else standing up for you, then even an abusive partner seems like your only friend.
