I think it is a new plan by councils to breath fresh air into city centres

i presume this is on street parking and council run car parks? i presume they can't charge extra for parking in a car park belonging to a shopping centre for example.

Theyve been doing this years, paid £9 to park the van for 30 mins yesterday (Islington)

Obviously fixing broken lighting in a GP surgery is unnecessary and should be discouraged.

Tumbleweed thrives in wide open spaces devoid of human life, so long term, yeah, tumbleweed should do well. These councils aren’t that bright are they?

I embrace The Daily Mail's ongoing concern for "hard-up" people. Long may it continue.

I turn down any work I get offered in Islington, just not worth the hassle any more. Stupid parking costs, IF you can park. Pedestrian zones, no entry roads, 'low traffic zone'. Speed humps. No thank you, get someone else.

If a council makes going somewhere a hassle or very expensive I just don't go. I go somewhere else. To be honest, in this world of internet everything, and my opinion that most UK towns are ugly, I can happily not go to many places at all.

From the Wail article:

“ More than half of councils in London, almost all of which are Labour-controlled, now have some sort of scheme where cleaner cars pay less to park than more polluting vehicles.”

Surely that is a ‘London thing’, not a ‘Labour thing’ ?!

I don't blame you. Old customers though, I lived in Camden for years. I charge 75 min for the first hour regardless - someone paid £80 today for me to fit a 9v battery to a smoke alarm. In the old days it'd have been a "giz a twenty" but those days are gone and now I have to explain to people they need to pay me extra money for time spent turning diesel into localised air pollution because some twits in the council think this will help the environment.

Do old diesels emit more pollution than other cars parked next to them? I was under the impression that there are zero emissions from any parked vehicle.
