Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman invited to visit UK https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66531007

Surprised this hasn’t got a thread running already.

WTAF? Our govt seems to find new depths to plumb just when it seems it’s hit rock bottom. Tossers

Probably a nice juicy arms deals in the pipeline so trebles all round.

Nice regime to do business with. Very ethical.

Why?

MBS is the leader (unofficial or otherwise) of one of the most important regional allies of the UK which also happens to be the country that buys a whole heap of rather expensive military kit. Whether or not someone geting on his wrong side might get chopped up into multiple pieces or that the Saudis are waging a pretty unpleasant war in a neighbouring country is neither here nor there. The UK for decades has always been very keen to keep them onside after all.

Not just the UK.

And, perhaps, some influence might be possible in terms of some of the stuff they get up to (I appreciate this is a stretch when looking at the incumbents of the HoP. But stranger things have happened).

He has ALL the money. We have none. We are desperate. Time to kiss the ring.

That said, I'll be pleasantly surprised if he even deigns to come.

Maybe he's coming to swap ideas on how to deal with migration:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-66545...

The British use of barracks and barges is being challenged in court as unacceptable, as well as our government facing outcry over proposals to transfer them overseas.

Saudi however simply used guns and mortars to kill migrants crossing their boarder, and then simply denies it when presented with accounts of
this.

Life must be so much simpler when your country has something everyone else wants.

(A bit like the British Empire in our heyday I suppose...added for balance)

Rishi's Rwanda "deterrent" plan has however got some stuff competition.
