That you, a Registered Nurse:

1) On 30 July 2021 used social media to post “Priti Patel and her Tory cronies are evil. I hope karma comes for them”.

2) On 8 December used social media to post “fk you Boris Johnson, fk you #PMQs”.

3) On or before 3 October 2022 said on a televised broadcast, “And I’m sorry but if you have voted Conservative, you do not deserve to be resuscitated by the NHS”.

AND in light of the above, your fitness to practise is impaired by reason of your misconduct.

Well deserved or over-reaction?

You could make the case for 3) but not the 1st 2.

Agree.

The first 2 are something and nothing.

3 was a very silly thing to publish.

Edit. Just clocked they said it on TV, eejit. Entirely predictably outcome.

agreed. I expect they used 1 and 2 to show a pattern.

Over-reaction. Whilst is is clearly unprofessional conduct, I would have thought a disciplinary process followed by a written warning would be more appropriate.

I disagree, they brought their profession into disrepute and they have breached whatever code of conduct they signed up to.

She is no longer working as a nurse.

She agreed to being removed (didn't contest it)

As such its a non story. She totally accepted she shouldn't have said it, clearly a person who was worn down by the system she had to work within.

Yes, this is true, but the question is whether the sanction is appropriate.

We all make mistakes, and for people unfamiliar with the media, it is easy to get carried away when trying to make their point. I mean, do we really think she didn't want to resuscitate "Tories"?

Plus, if we are to lance the boil of "cancel culture" and toxic social media, we need education and rehabilitation, not just throwing people to the wolves.

Agreed. 1 and 2 are harmless rants at politicians. 3 concerns people in their care.

The subjects of 1 and 2 are people she'd be expected to care for too, if necessary. I'm not sure those statements align brilliantly with her being well placed to provide that care.

I'd think them more likely reasons to sack her rather than remove her from the nursing register though. 3 is well over the line though IMHO.

I think striking her of the register is too far TBH.

Just a point though, she didn't say she wouldn't resuscitate someone who voted for the conservatives (how would she know for a start) she said she thought they didn't deserve to be resuscitated.

it's daft thing to say on TV but it's a subtle but important difference.

Her point #1 mentions a wish for karma to do its stuff.

I sense some irony here.

You might think it an important difference. Clearly others disagree.

I think any nurse (or any other medical practitioner) who says they would not help someone because of any political, racial etc motivation needs to go.

So for me, deserved.

She literally did not say that.

It was clearly just a comment meant to make a point and I doubt she even meant it literally.

They might disagree but if they can't see the difference in the two statements Id say they are deliberately not seeing it.

There will be many many nurses who think some of the patients don't deserve the treatment they are getting from the NHS, whilst giving them that treatment.

I wouldn't be comfortable being treated by someone who'd come out with comments of that nature.
