Just read that Michael Parkinson has passed away.
Possibly the best chat show host of his generation. I used to absolutely love his shows. His stuff with Muhammed Ali is particularly memorable

Thanks Parky.

Many comments from celebs, apparently he was a genuine friend to many, not just somebody who did the job shook hands until next time.

A few months ago there were some photos of him at an event and while he looked pretty well, he seemed to have aged massively, his face shape had changed totally.

Crikey.

You know you're getting old when the faces from your childhood start popping their clogs.

Think it was him who I first heard note the saying about three types of people ref Yorkshire smile

RIP Parky.

Sad news. I remember him mainly for being attacked by the Emu. Classic television. RIP.

"We are now the most northern people in the world - except for Michael Parkinson."

RIP Parky.

I did like the comment "At least he'll have his funeral plan worked out" biggrin

An excellent interviewer, tv presenter and entertainer, all in one show.

A master of his craft, and the man who probably launched the international career of Billy Connolly.

I wondered which of the two would go first. Thankfully, they more than patched up their friendship before Parky passed.

If it was the same event I attended in March, I thought he looked unwell and, yes, unrecognisable. Interesting guy though.
Of all the female guests he had on, the one who topped his list for beauty was Raquel Welch.

He excelled at interviewing. No one surpassed him. Immaculate preparation. I know EMU has been repeated ad nauseum on the tributes, but that was hardly his best. He got everyone who was anyone on his show. Occasionally, one might be upset with his lack of forelock pulling, but he normally had their measure, which upset one or two. Compulsive viewing at the time. "Did you see Parky last night," was a frequent question at work.

Great writer as well.

Discussing this with Mrs. O. earlier as she has watched more recent chat shows such as Norton.

The difference was, we agreed, that Parky had such a relaxed conversational style that he could effortlessly "coax" a story or an interesting anecdote from any given celebrity without blowing smoke up their arse.

The original, and best.
