Currently being sued by applicant who was not given a job because she was being treated for mental health issues.

Seems to me that as policing is a stressful job good mental health is an essential attribute. This is like someone who needs glasses complaining about not being accepted for RAF pilot training.

They have enough issues with current employees developing mental health issues without accepting ne entrants who are already there,

Could also be seen as a deterrent to seeking help if a bout of depression is going to limit your employment prospects.

I don't know how accurate the Functioning Alcoholic Detective trope of TV is, but I imagine dealing with the worst of society is going to be depressing.

biggrin

Regardless of the cause I wouldn't have thought it was an ideal job for somebody with MH issues.

Won’t this simply be referred to Insurers for them to kick into the long grass for a couple of years then offer the claimant £500 to go away?

Complex issue.

The job requires high resilience.

Without knowing her specific circumstances (so this may be an incorrect assumption), suffering anxiety and depression in 'normal' life isn't a positive indication when you may be called to see dead children etc.
The bit in bold appears to be the central part of her claim: Police Scotland allegedly applied a blanket policy rather than assessing her individual circumstances (as other forces apparently do).

Not sure I see an issue. There are presumably plenty suitable candidates that are not on medication for mental health issues. Having a blanket policy to recruit as far as possible fully healthy staff seems reasonable.

Mental resiliance is required. Why recruit anyone where there is reason to question it?
