Racism doesn’t exist today
Discussion
Lots of people have commented on here about how racism against black people doesn’t really exist today. This clip of a social experiment (if not faked) is a fairly brutal reminder that ingrained racism is alive and well in the US.

For those not clicking on the link:
Experiment is that they take two, young blind guys with glasses and stick. One white and one black. They grab hold of a stranger for help. The strangers help the white guy, even if they are shocked at first. The black guy is just rejected and some white people show disgust on their faces that they were touched by a black person.

I think this thread from yesterday says it all. Just skip to the end and the comment from the moderator on why he locked the discussion

humans are tribal animals, we are wired to be defensive and protective of our own and wary/hostile to those who aren’t
from the start of history we have seen this .. it will not change though we can override it
today we see it in gangs on south london estates, to the football terraces etc
race isn’t the driver, it’s difference and not being one of us, an outsider a possible threat and that absolutely includes religion and beliefs
that is why we have cultural identities and nationalities . because that is OUR gang .. from the village to the town to the county and country .. we identify
does racism exist .. yes, of course it does but here is the shocker most of it is NOT white against black
the indigenous white british population is incredibly tolerant and non judgemental
in 30+ years of policing the streets of the inner cities i’ve seen some horrid racism/discrimination and been subject myself to some real abuse
some of the most racist people i have ever come across are black africans, and not just against whites but also other africans/asians i’m sure you’ll think that’s controversial but that’s my lived experience in the u.k.
much of the racism in the u.k. is between and aimed at various immigrant communities
i’d still hold that the u.k. apart from being a way way better than the US in so many ways it IS one of if not the least racist and most tolerant countries on earth

We're reminded of how racist everyone is about everyone else, everyday.
Same as all the other 'isms and ists'
Without this constant reminder, children would grow up thinking everyone was nice and equal and that certainly can't be allowed to happen!
Really? You really believe that? Black people pointing out racism perpetuates racism. Victim blaming at its finest.Same as all the other 'isms and ists'

They are most probably talking about the UK!
You must be touchingly naive to take that statement as meaning it doesn't exist anywhere.
I agree, the UK for sure other than the tiniest minority of fools. Elsewhere around the world though it seems oddly prevalent. You must be touchingly naive to take that statement as meaning it doesn't exist anywhere.

Racism and bigotry still exists in the UK, we just at least have the damned courtesy not to be proud of it. Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
