On a World and UK perspective I think we could all agree the last few years have been challenging for most… with 4 years of Brexit, 2 years of Covid, the current situation in Ukraine and the complete and utter incompetence of the current government all contributing towards the current sh*t show we seem to be going through.

I can honestly see the decade being a write off especially if the Ukraine situation continues…..it’s difficult to see any light at the end of the tunnel or am I being unduly pessimistic?

I am alright Jack

Life is what you make it, even in the tough times. Often opportunities arise from difficult circumstances. Focus on the good stuff, it puts the negative things in proportion.

Honestly thought this was going to be a thread involving someone stranded with a broken down car and we get to guess how long the AA/RAC take to arrive. Disappointed

I’m more fortunate than most..Ive always thought each subsequent generation would by and large find it easier to get on in life than the previous generation.Maybe this trend is about to be reversed as I can only see a reduction in living standards for the foreseeable..

I truly believe we are witnessing the early beginnings of a long overdue correction - a permanent reduction in living standards for most ordinary folk. I'm not saying it's planned but its been clear for a long time we've been living well beyond our means in the West.

Prepare for genuine austerity (in relative terms)

Does that mean I have to stop being a 4 car household? How will I cope with 3? frown

In general people seem to expect more now than in previous generations. Polio was still an issue when I was very young. There was a device called the iron lung. We've had a few recessions ridiculously high interest rates other crisis like BSE, Foot and Mouth, Health and safety was not really considered and the numbers of people dying or being seriously injured was eye watering compared to today. Car and house ownership very much lower.

Our standard of living has improved immensely since mid last century. We may now have a tough decade but it will get better again.

I see our risk now as creeping nationalism pitting one nation against another and the climate issue. Russia could just be the beginning after their meddling in the USA and the UK. Unfortunately I think we made a huge tactical error with Russia by not embracing it more closely after the demise of the USSR. As for the climate it remains to be seen if the action is sufficient. If it isn't expect large migrations in the next 50-100 years.
