The Dutch ban mobile phones in classrooms. Good idea.
Discussion
The Dutch are to ban mobile phones in classrooms in most circumstances.
Good or bad idea? Seems to me removing a distraction is lacking a downside.

a superb idea
one of the single biggest barriers to learning in schools IMO
after the few twits that simply dont want to learn and just disupt the rest of the class that does
One independant schools here on the Isle of Wight has lockers in front of the main door. They line up if necessary and lock it away before they go into class and then get it out on the way out before they go home. Seems a very sensible.

Only allowed to use them in designated places in my kids' school (and the one my eldest will be going to in Sept).
Totally support it. And if he's caught breaking the rules I'll be taking his phone off him, let alone the teachers
Can't think of any reason why parents wouldn't get behind this and support schools in enforcement. But clearly there are some...

Good, it is how it should be. Interestingly I have worked with a US tech company who do the same.
Definitely a good idea.
Mrs V. teaches Year 6 primary school kids - the ones that need to knuckle down an learn. It's a constant battle with phones not being switched to silent interrupting classes, stupid ringtones, kids trying to send messages, sneaking a peek of a message, googling things, taking pictures of her and other schoolkids.
But the school is too kumbaya to enforce any policy. You'll always get some parent saying they have to be in touch with their kid because they have [insert some made up medical condition].
