Tesco and LBGTQ+
Discussion
Tesco sponsored LBGTQ+ for this years PRIDE event to the tune of £100,000. I was unaware of this until last night shopping in our local Tesco supermarket a tannoy announcement :
‘Hi, I’m Tracy (name changed) I’m the team leader supporting our LBGTQ+ staff members and customers. If you have any questions please contact me to discuss’
These are not the exact words conveyed but do represent the message accurately. Never heard such an announcement before in Tesco or any other supermarket, maybe I’ve been missing out.
Anyhow, after the announcement I did have a question, does the supermarket stock Robertson’s Raspberry jam, if so will you please show me where it is?
Raises a question, if a customer openly objects to the tannoy messaging will the customer be banned for shopping at Tesco? I am aligning this example with the alleged current situation concerning bank accounts being closed.
Of course businesses have always sponsored various causes and will continue to do so.
I would be more impressed if Tesco had been fairer with its fuel price on the forecourts.

If they objected to such a hurtful, painful message, surely they wouldn't want to shop there anymore, anyway? And who could blame them. If it was me I would probably be looking to sue. The struggle is real.

I'm not LGBT+ABCD2XY. Could I ask for the team leader allocated to supporting me or would that in some way be construed as hate speech?‘Hi, I’m Tracy (name changed) I’m the team leader supporting our LBGTQ+ staff members and customers. If you have any questions please contact me to discuss’

What’s ‘openly objecting’ mean in this instance?
Standing in the middle of the store shouting? Demanding to speak to the manager? Throwing your shopping on the floor and storming out? Or taking to social media claiming they’ve gone all ‘woke’ and ramming it down your throat?
I’m guessing in each instance you’ll be met with the reply of you’re free to shop elsewhere…
(This thread does have the potential of the Barclay Bank app displaying pride colours so I’m here for the lolz…)

Hope so, it’s an interesting area for discussion. Standing in the middle of the store shouting? Demanding to speak to the manager? Throwing your shopping on the floor and storming out? Or taking to social media claiming they’ve gone all ‘woke’ and ramming it down your throat?

There was a similar thing in Halifax Building Society recently. No problem for me.
Why do people get so triggered by this stuff? Surely folk can just ignore stuff they don't like.
My missus was reading the Daily Wail and asked me why I wasn't angry about a story of a trans person. She couldn't understand why I wasn't bothered as it didn't affect me. She stopped talking to me for the rest of the night - which was rather enjoyable
It's 2023 - not 1823.

There was a similar announcement in our store. It was quite nice to think how far we've progressed as a society over the past few years. ‘Hi, I’m Tracy (name changed) I’m the team leader supporting our LBGTQ+ staff members and customers. If you have any questions please contact me to discuss’

Apart from a lot of women feel like they're being erased. Still, can't please everyone.crankedup5 said:
Erm, shareholders!
I don't think one could reasonably assert that the shareholders aren't on board.https://www.tesco-careers.com/explore-our-world/lg...
So, within the constraints of applicable law, it's their shop and their rules.
