a couple of guys hiding away letting it happen!
Your point being??The only defence to a knife attack is distance - sorry but going towards someone armed with a knife and prepared to use it is pretty much guaranteed to get you injured at best.
Spent my working life dealing with this, distance and a firearm are the two effective defences.

So you’d be happy to stand and watch a baby/young child get stabbed? Easy to say you’d step in I know but come on. Many examples of unarmed people tackling knife menThe only defence to a knife attack is distance - sorry but going towards someone armed with a knife and prepared to use it is pretty much guaranteed to get you injured at best.

Where do I imply that I'd be happy? Really? Please.....I pointed out that you are pretty much guaranteed a serious injury getting involved.
As I said, spent my working life both dealing with it and training folks how to deal with it.
Me personally, if I were able to arm myself with some sort of weapon, very possibly I'd attempt to intervene, but a member of the public who's probably in fear of their life, unarmed and not used to being in dynamic and violent situations, then not a good idea.
Fight or flight is programmed into us and it takes quite an effort to overrule the flight drive, then once you've done that you've then got to keep the red mist out of the way and plan your actions.
Interesting that when you look at the primary defender in the Fishmongers Hall attack when he used the narwhal tusk, he was a serving prisoner with a history of violent crime so had very likely experienced violence before and was able to to pretty much do what I've outlined above.
Perhaps the guy with the bag you mention didn't have an escape route or more skin in the game such as his family involved which totally changes the game, but going forward unarmed is up there as a genuine last resort.
Knives don't run out of ammunition, they don't jam or misfire, they're silent and most stab victims think they've simply been punched so try to fight back only to receive further, often fatal, injuries.
Many examples of good samaritans in knife attacks getting serious or worse injuries too.
It's a st situation definitely, but sometimes you've got to leave it to the people best equipped to respond, or run the fker over!
No way would I subject anyone who decided to stay out of the way to the 9 o'clock shudder squad, unlike you.

Until people are in that situation it is hard to know how they would react. If they were unrelated adults I probably wouldn't try to help to be honest. I like to think I would do something if it were toddlers though, even if just trying to distract the knifeman.
