Conservative MP Bob Stewart has been charged with public order offences relating to a "racially aggravated" incident in December last year.

Police say the 73-year-old has been charged with using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour and that the offence was racially aggravated.

He was also charged with using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The alleged offences took place outside the Foreign Office's Lancaster House offices, at an event hosted by the embassy of Bahrain on 14 December.

The Metropolitan Police opened a case following a complaint from activist Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, who says he is living in exile after being tortured in the Gulf state of Bahrain.

Very likely something to do with an election.

I think we'll have to wait until the court day for that to be reported.

As there were no details in the article, it suggests nothing has been made public yet, which is understandable.

Although perhaps unusual, given we're getting used to a blow by blow account of everything that can be chewed over ad nauseam on social media.

He's doing alright if he can still get an election at 73 I reckon.

Seems pretty ok to me.

Remember when Prescott got an egg to the face? Didn’t he then smack the egg thrower in the face?

Two-way conversation and banter is critical to a working democracy in my view. We see the real workings of the participants minds… vs the scripted and carefully curated ‘statements’ full of empty platitudes and twisted truths, which serves no one in any valuable way.

Given the context of the interaction in the video I don't see how it's a racist incident, perhaps it could be construed as slightly xenophobic?

My respose is to a post higher up the page which has been edited since but Bromley isn't that safe a seat anymore as the Lib dems took one of the wards in the last election https://cds.bromley.gov.uk/mgElectionAreaResults.a...

Lots of constituents will vote for other parties in the main election but in the local they will vote conservatives as the neighbouring labour boroughs are abysmal in regards to crime and traffic restrictions in comparison.
