Huge train crash in India, 260+ dead and over 1000 injured !!

The casualty figures are just mind-blowing.

Thoughts go to those affected.

I have seen evidence of people sitting on roof of trains, and hanging on the edges of carriages, in India.

Not sure if this occurred here

Indeed, it is horrendous yet, sadly, a result of many people travelling on the railway when an accident occurs.

Thoughts and prayers for those who lost their lives, and family members grieving.

Awful.

Then that list of accidents at the end of that news link. So many very bad accidents with a huge number of casualties.

800 dead in 1981 when a train got blown into a river during a cyclone frown

Absolutely horrific. I just can’t get my head around those numbers.

What a terrible tragedy.

Those numbers need tempering by just how massive the Indian railways are 24 million passenger journeys per day!!

Thoughts with those killed and injured.

It doesn't really happen on that kind of long distance (higher speed) trains these days, more on regional/local trains when there is absolutely no space.

Absolutely tragic event.

As they’re more than happy to operate their trains in this condition, such casualty numbers are hardly a surprise, even from the smallest of mishaps.

“Modi vows punishment”
Surely it should be
“Modi vows to find the cause and prevent it happening again”

Unbelievably tragic.

Sounds like a bit of bad luck involved too with the commuter train hitting the back of a goods train and derailing into the path of an oncoming express train.

Horrible, just horrible.

Sadly, that's it.

Find someone to blame it on, then throw them onto a fire like a sacrificial goat.

Nothing gets changed.
