I am not sure whether Rees Mogg meant to be so honest though!

For those not following the link, he was attempting to attack Labour for planned Gerrymandering by saying that the Conservatives had tried gerrymandering by introducing ID for local elections, thinking it would put off young people (potential Labour voters) but had ended up with fewer older people voting ie potential Conservative voters, so it wasn’t advisable.

It is a quite stunning admission of a deliberate attempt to manipulate voting in favour of the Conservatives.

Rees Mogg seems to get away with holding outrageous beliefs and outrageous actions because he speaks very well and comes across as posh but awkward. A true wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Weren’t people on here adamant that it was an anti-fraud measure even though polling booth fraud is virtually non-existent and that postal fraud is where the vulnerabilities lie but that was conveniently ignored?

I'm amazed that JRM thought it OK to admit this. What's he on? Surely it cant just fade into the past?

What amazes me is people's negative perspective on this.

Ultimately he told the truth and I would expect the majority agree with his comments as a whole from the clip.

Thats astonishing. "look guys, we legislated to corrupt democracy in our favour, but it backfired on us, so don't believe them others who might be trying to do the same because it probably won't work". I don't know... they might be a bit smarter about it than you, Rees-Mogg.

Dame Shirly-Porter 2.0

If he has admitted to Gerrymandering then he deserves to see the inside of a prison cell.

It is ok to admit this. Everyone knew exactly why they were doing it, nobody will be held to account for it

Listen to it carefully. The second sentence.

Sounds like people need to look up Gerrymandering, as “voter id” is nothing to do with it.

Gerrymandering is about amending district boundaries to favour a particular party.

Did he care to mention his part in implementing this policy?

I've said it in another thread, I'd not believe a thing out of his mouth. I'd wager he knows it's good for the party, and is selling is as a loss so people keep it/support it from the opposition.

Looks likes its working.

The aim of Gerrymandering is to rig the voting system in your favour. The main method is changing voting districts. Using voter ID was supposed to achieve the same objective with a slightly different method. We could come up with a different word but as the purpose is the same I think we can stick with gerrymandering.

Complaining about a policy he once supported seems a bit odd.

Reece-Mogg is an idiot, and rotten to the core. Speaks with a posh accent which the boot-lickers seem to like.

It was so painfully obvious that it didn't need confirmation, but good to get it out in the open anyway.

I would've thought more of the elderly would be deterred by filling in forms or going online than ethnics, wokists and the misguided young, plus they have less reason to have existing photo ID.
