It seems unfair some students are having to make difficult decisions between food, rent or a tattoo. Shouldn't the tax payer be stepping in to help out?

My brother died in 2019 (no tears were shed) and his family asked my sister & I for donations to his funeral.
But not until after they'd all had tattoos commemorating his life.

4 of them (his kids) couldn't scrape together the £1500-2000 for a cheap funeral but somehow prioritised tramp stamps over this.

Why do you think that?

In life, two things are constant....
The rent man
Death

Or is having a tattoo more important than paying the rent?

Or is having a tattoo more important than eating?

Seems to me to be an odd choice to choose the tattoo!

rofl what a bizarre article.

Last weekend we were round my SiL's, niece was telling us how nice it was that there are 3 different coffee chain branches on her university campus, cue her cousin ripping the piss out of poor hard up students.

Why do you think that?
Because the BBC told him to think that?

The OP is clearly pointing out how daft the article is. I don’t know how some of you manage in real life if you can’t pick up on obvious sarcasm and take everything literally.

It appears only the OP finds it a “difficult decision”, the student seems to find it easy.

Should have worked harder at school OP!

That’s what I thought. The students all seem to recognise a tattoo is a “luxury” OP somehow thinks that people think they should be Govt. funded??

Just another NP&E dog whistle I suspect!

I'm wondering if this article was meant to go out on April 1st?

I remember being decidedly upset at Uni I couldn't afford luxuries like wall to wall drinking and a fast (indeed any) car. They too would have been an "investment" in me.

I doubt I'd have got the BBC to write an article about it though.

Still, at least the lady in the article is coming away from Uni with some l actual life experience.

Vikingette1 is at Brum. She gets the Student Loan for her course fees and accommodation, but nothing significantly more because of our earnings. She has a part-time job as a gymnastics coach and they are supportive and are happy for her to do any hours she wants - less during exam times and absolutely caning the hours during summer to cover leave. We give her £1k per month. But what she's done is she's saved most of it to cover her Masters (£10k course fees, and £12k for accommodation). From her Snapchat and Insta feed, she's out every weekend partying and has holidays booked with her friends.

Vikingette2 is at Manc. Get's £1k pm from us, no part-time job, lazy, dirty and always on the scrounge for more money. Chalk and cheese.

This is a weird thread.

What's wrong with the article? People budgeting properly and realising the difference between a necessity and a luxury?

As baiting goes, this OP is pretty poor.

Darwinism at its finest. If you prioritise tattoos over food you might die. See ya.

The post even has a rolling eyes smilie icon in the NPE list of topics, making it even more obvious.
