The park’s management claimed the association with a wood-burning, carbon-emitting blazing beacon was “not a good look” as the name was dropped in favour of its Welsh counterpart Bannau Brycheiniog.

They've used the Welsh word for a "a wood-burning, carbon-emitting blazing beacon" so they've achieved nothing here.https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/...

Snowdonia National Park was renamed last year.
Without resorting to looking up the new name, anyone know what it is?
Fekin Welsh extremists. I bet you any money that Martin Sheen, when asked what the highest mountain in the world was called, in Welsh, he would answer Mynedd Everest. Absolutely no regard for its real name or the culture of the people that live there. he would just use the name given to it by imperialist British world conquerors .
Such double standards. Who made Martin Sheen the mouth piece of all wales anyway? Gobste.

Snowdonia National Park. Call it what you wish people are still going to be climbing Snowdon for decades to come. Without resorting to looking up the new name, anyone know what it is?

I saw this and tbh I just assumed it was the Welsh being proud of their Welshyness and wanting to show everyone how Welsh they are.
Presumably they have stats on visitor numbers so they'll know if there's been a detrimental impact from doing it.
Not sure why it should be a big deal.
If they did care about the environment, then yes stopping people driving from England to wales just to consume clean Welsh mountain air, by driving their cars across the border and parking on Welsh verges, then they should be happy. How can anything about this be environmentally friendly? They are off their rockers.
As they are parks in Wales they should of course be referred to by their Welsh names alongside the English ones.
Referring to it by the Welsh names alone is rather mad. Even ignoring the tourism aspects it is a language spoken only be around a third of Welsh people.
I probably will end up driving to the Brecon Beacons one day and hopefully this will not make it harder to find.

Wood burning beacons are carbon neutral.
I don't think this is really anything to do with climate change, they've just pasted that on top of it, it's about Welsh language and identity.
Yep cheap clickbait journalism., Find something almost completely un-related that you can make stupid people angry about.I don't think this is really anything to do with climate change, they've just pasted that on top of it, it's about Welsh language and identity.

When I heard the news about this I looked askance and then my disapproval turned to laughter having studied a little bit about why.
Bless them, they have got themselves all mixed up with brands, logos, heritage, language, climate change and woke.
They did not consult, there was no research.. or they certainly havent quoted any research.
Having worked with brands for over 25 years.... if it ain't broke...
Classic Brand equity destruction... needlessly...
Thank god they didn't look at the mountain range Y Mynydd Du and find a problem with that too.
Do you remember the other great Welsh rebrand kerfuffle? Cardiff City F.C. Blue Swallow to Red Dragon Fail
This lots seem to be very ant-fire... I guess they will also be recommending an extinguished dragon
