Can’t help thinking he could have just said -“ I’m sorry if my comments offended some “ and moved on

I was surprised not to see a post about this already. Thought the free speech lot would be all over this. Has Tommy Robinson lent his support yet?

What's that line that gets trotted out here all the time, usually in defence of scumbags.

I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!

I'd prefer it if he stfu unless he also has meaningful ideas and solutions to put forward to the problems he's referencing.

His comparisons are wrong and inflammatory and, ultimately, probably not helpful.

This will shirley get shifted to the NPE board where the sensible adults with big brains will dissect the ramifications of this earth shattering ejaculation from an ex pigbladder molester and TV punditter.

This craven caving in to the Tory high command is going to backfire.

Another contractor, Andrew Neil was sharing his (positive) views on Tory policies in the Spectator and twitter for years. And he fronted political programmes, not MOTD.

Poor Beeb. Bullied into a cack-handed retribution against a guy would be poplar without appearing on the BBC ever again.

Pretty sure he is more popular than any member of the government individually or collectively.

And the talk of being inflammatory above is hilarious when we have Cruella Braverman stinking up the Home Office.

I wish the reply had been "If Braverman steps back from ministerial duties, I'll step back from presenting. Until then."

Probably get moved shortly. Glad to see the back of him. Looks like Wright and Shearer going too.

A good spring clean out.

One of the conditions of working for the BBC is that you don't publicly wade into politics. He has done it numerous times and is insistent that he will not be complying with his employers policies. Any organisation should be looking to move someone like that on.

What, and then it will just go away, will it? I cancel my direct debit and the UK no longer has a state broadcaster?

None of that is actually true though is it?

Linekar is wholly entitled to whatever view he takes, but the BBC isn’t . It is literally as simple as that.

His actual point of view is pretty vanilla, innocuous stuff other than his connection of the point to Nazi Germany. That is historically illiterate tik tok politics best left to the dinner table.

This clearly only applies to people with a certain kind of politics though.

And what happens when you want to watch other live TV apart from the BBC?

Not quite as "simples", is it?

He believes we should encourage a lethal people-smuggling industry run by some of the most callous criminals in the world.

Not that vanilla and innocuous really?

Falling on his sword.

I don't particularly think he's wrong in what he said but he clearly thought he was above the law as laid out by the BBC.

He's had numerous warnings.

Are you saying the BBC isn't allowed to criticise or question government policy? Funny kind of impartiality, that.
