From the Telegraph:

Iraqi immigrant stabbed university student because he wanted to be deported from Britain

Telegraph said:
Teenager Ellis Wheeler was left fighting for his life after Rebaz Mohammed attacked him as he was walking through a leafy park on his way back from the gym.

Mr Wheeler managed to run away but passed out before being rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery.

Mohammed, who came to the UK illegally on a small boat, was arrested at the scene and told police he had attacked his victim so he could be sent home to Iraq.

The 28-year-old appeared at Southampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife blade. He had previously been cautioned for criminal damage and battery and in May 2022, was jailed for 12 weeks for racially-aggravated harassment and stalking.

The court heard how his victim, a first year Solent University student, missed his exams and still struggles to sleep as he his dogged by anxiety.

Mohammed was sentenced to six years imprisonment with a four year extended licence following the 'indiscriminate' attack in Hoglands Park, Southampton, Hants, last December.
Why was this criminal still in the UK & not deported upon his release from prison in August/September 2022?

Only Gary Lineker can save this troubled man’s soul.

A few thoughts:

1. Incompetent political leadership at the Home Office.
2. A severely underfunded justice system
3. Overworked prison and probation services.

Cost?
If he arrived on a boat, would he have travel documents? We hear about the boat guys (and girls) deliberately getting rid of any ID documents, so maybe he didn't have a passport? Although not sure how much of a problem that would have been, presumably his nationality would have been proven as he went through the penal system.

I'm gonna take a guess, and suggest cost.

Illegal immigrant, so no right to work.

Criminal record, so probably not top of peoples shortlists if he could work.

And I guess he got bored of waiting for Ryanair to offer a £10 one way ticket.

Probably too scared of Gary Lineker saying they were Nazis.

Should have been.

Presumably wasn't because of a complete failure of Government policy.

Depressingly, if he'd just rocked up at a police station or home office counter they'd most likely have arranged for that to happen, so I imagine the answer is not being aware of that fact.

Hard to say. There is a minimum threshold for a sentence that leads to automatic deportations, but I'd have thought that would be above it. Iran might have refused to document him or take him. Or he might just be in the middle of a deliberately broken immigration system that aims for this kind of headline while doing nothing to reduce them.

Also, reporting of immigration and judicial proceedings is often astonishingly bad, so it's entirely possible the Telegraph are lying about something, making st up or missing some key points.

With this kind of hyperbole/rhetoric, it's hard to take anything else you write seriously.

Well, that would be pretty stupid, but that's your prerogative.

Do feel free to share what your qualifications are for judging that as hyperbole though. Do you feel like the immigration system is working well at the moment?

It works brilliantly and is totally fit for purpose.

The Government would have it all sorted in a jiffy if it wasn't for the lefty lawyers and people like Lineker thwarting the will of the people.

Ignoring your somewhat clumsy attempt to be personally insulting, no, I don't think that it's deliberate as much as it is incompetence, nor does it (deliberately) aim to generate any of these negative headlines. I think it's hyperbolic because it's a very extreme, simplistic, and paranoid interpretation of a complex system.

What are your qualifications for suggesting the system has been deliberately broken? Please keep it objective, and don't answer akin to "BeCaUsE ToReEz".

Oscar Wilde had it nailed when he wrote about sarcasm.

This and the Rwanda thread has revealed Schrödinger's immigrant who should be here, but not here at the same time.

"Oh my God! The Tories are literally Nazis for trying to stop illegal immigrants!"

Whilst

"Oh my god! The immigrant stabbed somebody! Why didn't the Tories do something!"

You need to learn the basic facts about immigration before you spout off about it in public. Asylum seekers aren't illegal immigrants.

Then you can try with some straw man bullst that's slightly harder to pick apart.
