The sanitisation of literary works from the past continues.

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/b...

Years from now, people will wonder why there was ever considered to be a problem, given that all the literature from the past shows everyone being terribly right on, even back in the fifties and sixties.

He probably won't even kill people- he'll just get off a few cutting remarks which will irrevocably damage their confidence.

Looks like one edit was in 1955

Minor detail for culture war red faced angry right wing nutters though being stoked up with some engagementbait smile

World gone soft…68 years ago.

Revised lines include Bond’s assessment in Live and Let Die that African would-be criminals are “pretty law-abiding chaps I should have thought, except when they’ve drunk too much”, which has been changed to “pretty law-abiding chaps I should have thought”.

As long as he's completed a risk assessment and he's wearing the correct PPE, killing people should be fine.

On first meeting the baddie:

"It was clear from the outset, (insert baddie here) was a victim of the Tory Government and the Imperialist empire"
"Bond thought again. Mr Big was a major employer of disadvantaged black men, afterall..."

On Goldfinger
"Reigned in the the velvet claw of the disc brakes, Bond allowed a wry smile as the regen braking icon on the on-board infotainment showed an extra mile of range"

They'll need to work out a new title for chapter V of Live and Let Die first.

This has become a marketing tool of publishers now. They announce that they’re releasing an updated version of the books, attract a whole load of publicity then announce that they’ll reissue the original books as well in a special edition.

As long as people keep falling for it they’ll keep doing it.

Yep. Fortunately for them stupidity is plentiful.

It must be enormously commercially appealing, given Bond is a modern character too, to make the Fleming books more attractive to modern audiences.

I’ve just finished reading Goldfinger and the racism in that is pretty awful.

I’d be interested to know if translations of the books have been been sanitised to remove some of the more obvious racist language - Live and Let Die has been mentioned for example.
