Is this really what we've become?

Far-right protesters clash with police at Merseyside hotel housing asylum seekers

Guess this is where all that rhetoric about an "invasion" ends up.

Nice one Braverman.

Figure of speech.

Clearly not everyone just the thugs involved.

Bit more from the local press.

Three arrested after appalling scenes near hotel

No doubt they feel empowered by the government being aligned with their racist views.

Yep deeds not words , Love the far right comment I would bet most are working class and come from families who are or were staunch labour ,
It’s only going to get worse with ordinary people left to live with the failure to protect our borders and vet people . I think its just the beginning 🤢

It’s gross exaggeration within the media, this was the ignition point of the demonstration.
The problem is going to get worse as more people arrive by small boats across the English Channel.

Interestingly last weekend I saw the right wing nut jobs protesting against boat people outside a venue in the Farnborough/Aldershot area.. which is ironically hosting Ukrainian refugees.

Ah BS with more “outrage”

Perhaps if you looked at the back story for this you might understand why people locally are angry

As for far right .. rofl

Kirkby and almost all of Merseyside is about as far away from “Far right” as it’s possible to be in the U.K.

The only surprise is that this type of thing isn't more widespread.

Cor, what's the world coming to? You can't even attend a rally organised by a white supremacist group outside a building housing asylum seekers, chant "Get Them Out" and "This Is Our City", throw some bricks, smash some windows, set fire to a police van and have a good fight with law enforcement without being called far right!

IIRC the last time a police vehicle was set on fire in a riot in a UK city this place was seething with outrage, describing anyone tangentially involved in the protest as a baying mob (always a baying mob...) of Marxist thugs and coming up with all sorts of creative ways of meeting out restorative justice. But they were protesting against a government policing bill, so it's obviously very different...

I also like the implication that working class people can't be right wing, or can't be radicalised to far-right beliefs or actions. Voting Labour isn't a talisman, and certainly doesn't make you immune to radicalisation or reactionary views. It's not like garlic to vampires.

Indeed, more to do with a video of some attempted noncing by an asylum seeker than far right racism..

Yes, it was the attempted grooming of an underage girl.

I understand that the local MP has asked the police to investigate an incident reported on social media.

I have referred an alleged incident posted on social media, which has triggered a demonstration outside the Suites Hotel, to Merseyside Police and Knowsley Council.

Until the police have investigated the matter, it is too soon to jump to conclusions, and the effort on the part of some to inflame the situation is emphatically wrong.
No excuse to torch a police van but might be useful to know what this "alleged incident" was.

Apologies if I'm wrong but it rings a bell that you're an ex copper?

What are the circumstances in which you think it's OK to set fire to a Police van?

Or when violent protest is acceptable to you?

Why does that mean they can't be far-right or racist?

People have been saying this since the 1960's and yet, in my experience, we've become increasingly more tolerant as a society. Behaviour like what Stewie has linked to is rare.

You can't post like that in a BS thread, you have to cite your position for every word in the OP.
Failure to observe the correct protocol will result in...

Violent thuggish tts aside, are one lot of protesters "far right" because their political affiliations & swastika tattoos have been documented & verified, or because Cuddles from Calais have said they are?

Grumps.

If this was supposed to be an isolated incident, why were the antifa in attendance as well?
