I’m sure all our resident conspiracy theorists will react sensibly to this news.

He's always managed to make himself look as thick as two short planks - he's the Tories' RLB.

I imagine he's the sort that most PMs look for reasons to remove the whip from smile

The benefits of the Covid vaccines have been much overstated, their risks often deliberately concealed, and trying to force people to take them via vaccine passports was an extreme example of state overreach.

That said a serving politician shouldn't be comparing them to the holocaust, so I can understand why the whip was withdrawn.

silence him. quickly.

What he said as per article Bridgen wrote: “As one consultant cardiologist said to me this is the biggest crime against humanity since the holocaust.”

Article then said - The tweet is among a series of social media messages, and direct messages to journalists, that the North West Leicestershire MP has sent in recent weeks, baselessly arguing that the Covid vaccines seriously harm health.

Silence and ban any dissenting voices.
How exactly is Bridgen (the tit) being silenced? He can keep on making as many outrageous statements in public as he likes.

Stewie, you were only this morning commenting on “faux outrage” in the Harry’s biography thread. I’m sure I must be different to many/most/all commentators as my outrage-o-meter rarely finds itself overly troubled. I’m curious as to why we find ourselves so often calling for measures to be taken against individuals for saying stuff we don’t like. Why isn’t it enough to just think of someone as acting foolishly? Of course I can imagine reasons that might be given for the suspension.

That said, man who regularly ruffles feathers finds himself in bother with the authorities. It’s simultaneously an obvious and predictable escalation and ripe for conspiracy theorists!

losing his job is a big threat to try and silence him. I recall some doctors were also "silenced "for having a dissenting view ie they would be struck off.

its healthy to debate issues not to silence people. Open debate should allow people to form their own views as to the merits of their argument.

Losing ones job, or being struck off, is not being silenced.

Hmmm - you really believe that coercion and threats to losing a job/profession is not trying to stop someone from speaking out? Then Im flabbergasted.

The BBC's take on it with an anaysis from their own Health & Disinformation reporter:

"Analysis by Rachel Schraer, Health and Disinformation reporter

Andrew Bridgen was previously critical of policies like lockdown and the idea of vaccine mandates - but he praised the development of the Covid vaccine, and tweeted proudly when he received his doses.

It wasn't until last autumn that he began to make increasingly baseless claims, including that the vaccines were killing many people and that the damage was being covered up.

At first, he began highlighting some real, but rare, instances of genuine vaccine injury and misinterpreting real data to suggest these cases were more common than the research suggests.

But in recent weeks, this rhetoric has ramped up.

Extensive independent research shows that Covid vaccines are extremely effective at preventing deaths and that serious side effects (including approximately 60 deaths in England and Wales) are rare, given the tens of millions of doses administered."

Phew! That's alright then. smile

Shame, but not surprising. He was the only one highlighting the issues that others seem unwilling to discuss.
Why say something silly like that, and undo his good work...honestly. I wish people would think before Tweeting!

He hasn't lost his job, he's still an MP and can sit in the House (once his suspension for breaching the paid lobbying rules is finished in a couple of days). The Conservative Party has decided they don't want to be associated with his comments , which is their prerogative.
