Well arguably there's already enough gun ammunition to kill every American in the USA (and then some)

It's just an issue of distribution and supply.

You could I'm fact name any household item and say there's enough of it to kill everyone: scissors, rolling pins, bleach.

Ps I don't want any Americans (or indeed anyone) killed, but I guess someone just went for a headline grabbing way of describing this amount of drugs.

Sort of agree - I’m sure they could seize enough paracetamol to kill every American with no trouble too….but

1. They’re making it look like other prescription meds, but it has an absolutely tiny fatal dose (you have to take 150mg/kilo of you for paracetamol and only 3mg or so if Fentanyl total. This is quite a difference)
2. Bullets are intended to kill things so you wouldn’t ‘try it once to see what it’s like’ (probably!)

Nope, US population is approx 5 times the size, not 27 times.

This should probably be more worrying “ as well as over 50.6m fentanyl pills that were made to resemble different prescription painkillers.”

They've pretty successfully moved the blame to Fentanyl from oxycontin though. AFAIK oxys are still the biggest killers.

USA

0.0327272727%
108 000 is 0.0327273% of 330 million

U.K.

0.00597014925%
4000 is 0.00597015% of 67 million

In fairness it’s a tiny fraction of a less than 1% in both

In the USA Fentanyl has overtaken OxyContin as the biggest killer. But without Oxy the market for Fentanyl probably wouldn’t have developed. It is tragic what has happened. Fentanyl is over 50 times more powerful than Oxy much more risk of OD.
Fentanyl is an illegal import pure active material, Oxy was/is a manufactured pharmaceutical controlled release product. Originally Oxycontin could be crushed to get a bigger hit but it was reformulated a while ago to make crushing etc almost impossible. Hence a market for Fentanyl. Note Oxy is highly addictive as well.

It is worth watching the series Dopesick. The USA will take many many years to recover from what has happened.

It represents about 4% of all deaths in the US.

Pah, medical errors kill over 200k a year, some estimates at 350k.

biglaugh

Even the quickest mental maths would mean the US would have to have more than a billion people for it to be even close.

If a number looks unbelievable it probably is. That would mean medical errors are responsible for 10% of all deaths an 30-50% of all deaths in hospital. I’d suggest that number is not accurate.

Apart from recreational use, isnt a lot of this down to folk self medicating as they cant afford health insurance ?
