Just seen on the news today. Identify? Surely it is factual, born in the UK then yes; not born in the UK no.

Isn't this more about whether someone says they're English or British (or Welsh or Scottish, etc..)

These days, if you say you're English you'll be arrested and thrown in jail!

I always identify as Scottish, European living in England.

In reality British is easier as it saves pissing off Border Guards by being a smart arse; which is never a great tactic!

I'm British, except for when I'm on holiday and there's a chance of a punch up with the Welsh.

I’d say British on forms etc but English if someone asks where I’m from when abroad.

Yep, happens all the time, I've only just got out from saying it yesterday, and I'm waiting for the police to turn up after I said it this afternoon.

Yes. Born in England, always lived in England (when resident in the UK - I have lived abroad). Of English and Irish ancestry (with Welsh and Scottish in the mix if you go a generation or two further back) but have always felt most comfortable describing and identifying myself as British. I don't really feel any lessened sense of kinship, shared history, shared values etc. with people on the other side of the UK's internal borders, any more or less than I do with people over the county boundaries within England.

Not sure not being Born in the UK means you aren't British.

There will be many people that weren't born in the UK that consider themselves British/English/Welsh/Scottish/Iirsh.

Or is this just a bizarre comment on the word 'identify'?

Scary that you thought my comment wasn't from a comedy routine!
