The US National Powerball lottery jackpot should hit a record $1.9 billion tonight.
Here’s a breakdown of what you could expect to win after taxes each state.

They do screw you on the winnings though.

I just played it through Lottoland but the jackpot is 200k less. Sneaky bar stewards.

You lose 38% through state taxes .

$1B is the real payout but that’s in instalments.

A lump sum 1 off payment is only 500mil.

Got my ticket though. biggrin

After a delayed draw due to a security protocol issue it appears there is only one winner of the $2.04 billion prize. Oh, it’s not me btw….

My mate is currently separating from his wife in Pasadena (LA), they argue every day by text. She occasionally uses the petrol station where the winning ticket was sold (daily school run) - he has not heard from her over the last 24 hours, and now he is dreading the nightmare scenario she could be the winner biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Too late and “fortunately” not an issue because you didn’t win. But…
Don’t take the annuity (installments). It’s over 20 years and is not transferable on death. It’s also not a great investment return.

The reason why it would be too late is because you select when buying the ticket. It’s how the US lottery has high payouts. That with paying tax on the winnings and not the ticket like the UK.

Having said that, I’d struggle to grumble with the latest pay out even if it didn’t mean $2B in the bank.

Fun fact, maybe, a large house where I grew up was bought by a “successful” business man. It turned out he was a lottery winner who told people he had made his money by selling a business.

I was convinved I was going to win it and had told a few friends that they'd not be hearing from me again as I galavanted around the world spending money on boats, holidays and cars. Oh well back to work it is.
