Is this another lot of Circuit-of-Wales chancers/dreamers or have they actually got a product and a business?

Don't know about that but I do know that Wales offers very generous grants to new businesses.

AMTE seem legit and established, albeit pretty small. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/0849052...

Britishvolt is basically a nothing. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/1238154...

...yet they're going to raise £1.2bn investment in the next year? I'm somewhat skeptical.

So you've answered your own question?

Everything starts from nothing. Why so doubtful?

True, but not everything starts with a £1.2bn investment to build a "gigafactory".

Welsh grants in particular seem to be something of a magnet for "highly optimistic" enterprises.

Either way one to watch.

Where there is public money there is always someone with a flashy scheme ready to take it.

Time for a bump on this. Bit of a kick in the teeth for Wales, following Ineos (and TVR, while not dead, is tagged "Do not resuscitate").

Hopefully DBX at St Athans keeps on track.

Kick in the teeth? Has British volt gone away from Wales? I thought it was all still on?

Anyone else notice this name in the Britishvolt directors list?
Charles Peter Henry MORGAN

It's a separate entry from Charles Morgan of Morgan Cars fame, but what are the chances?

A quick Google says it is the same Charles Morgan.

Do these companies being courted receive initial funding and breaks from the welsh assembly? If they do then promptly bugger off is it repayable?

Where is this place that people refer to as "St Athans"?

I would love to see this sort of development brought to the NE but sadly suspect it will come to nothing.

It's just the sort of thing the current Govt needs to support (fiscally) if they want to be true to their word - it's all potentially there, a sloping playing field when we exit with no deal, and the political imperative to connect with the former Labour voters whole 'loaned their vote'.

....I suspect these factors are not lost on the people behind it.

Seems odd.

Tvr apparently had loans to be paid at certain times and also linked to the factory being renovated. Nothing much has happened there.

Maybe if the Welsh ask for the money back it will go under and they’ll get less than if they hold on hoping it might work out eventually?

Obviously I don’t know based on the above but tvr seem to have survived longer than was expected based on the initial loans (and their ability to repay) from the welsh government.

Very difficult for the Welsh though, trying to bring in new business and jobs and support them but not wanting to lose the money completely.

You'd think it pretty straightforward to tie in payments to stages of business development (building facilities, employing people, longevity etc).

Snatching at it and just chucking money at things seems like a surefire way of getting spanked.
