Many of us here are probably just about as (un)qualified to make Govt policies as those who actually do make them.

So opening the can of worms, what policies would you announce if you were PM in the current circumstances, and why?

Personally I'd immediately go for:
1: A further windfall tax on energy firms for taxable UK profits.
2: New UK Energy Co to compete with the private companies. Gotta be careful with nationalised companies (I used to work for one which was a horrible experience), so need to incentivize the employees by way of profit-share etc.
3: Ditto the railways.
4: Delete the Rwanda nonsense. £millions has been wasted for no benefit whatsoever.
5: Make teachers pay commensurate with their students outcomes. Hopefully a win-win.
6: Have a good look at all existing Govt contracts and get rid of any that aren't performing efficiently.
7. Expedite nuclear and renewable energies.
8: If there has to be fracking, ensure that the locals get 1st refusal on the newly created jobs wherever possible to reduce local resistance.

I'm sure that I've missed a lot and that you'll have better ideas, so over to you...

All contracts for roads upgrades/repairs should prioritize the speed of completion and minimizing travel disruption. Running over time should incur fines

It's "If I were..." not "If I was..."

It should prioritise quality/lifespan of the work. It should only need doing once.

I'd be happy to resign/be sacked and beat Liz Truss's record for shortest serving PM and then trouser the £115k pa ongoing...

Fast-track the transition to Nuclear Energy (and renewables).

Introduce disincentives for failure - where for example a CEO who's buggered the company receiving a multi-million pound pay off.

Pay all MPs £1m a year - but - this covers absolutely everything, they cannot do work for anyone else, receive payment from anyone else or work for anyone else for five years after leaving office. Plus other measures to remove the influence of corporations from political parties. I'd like to separate union influence from Labour too but that may be a bit of a push.

Ban all cars from the roads of Essex on a Sunday morning with the exception of Lotus Elises.

Immediately end all public sector defined benefit pensions and let them endure what the rest of us have to put up with (should soon focus some minds). Should also put the countries finances back on a sustainable footing.

Not sure I'd limit that last one to just Lotus Elises, but I agree with the rest.

Public campaign funding for candidates too. A small but sufficient budget; to be refunded if the candidate gets less than 1% of the total vote.

1. Bring forward a Bill for a referendum in Scotland and NI, to call their bluff.
2. Bring forward a Bill for a referendum on reimposing the Death Sentence for murder.
3. Bring forward a Bill to deport all foreign criminals whether or not, they have RTR status.

That'll do for now.....

Would the windfall tax on energy firms pay for all this, or are you increasing taxes elsewhere or borrowing more?
