That's messed up.

Right that he's been suspended and right that he seems to have jumped before he was pushed.

I'm not clear from the article how long the allegation and investigation has been going on for and whether he was suspended during that time?

I think it goes back to 2019, I heard rumours about it a year ago.

So why wasn’t he suspended when the allegations were made and first investigated ?

Sorry, but couldn't the woman in question just man up and tell him she's not interested?
Unless I missed something (quite possible, so apologies in advance. I only skim read it), the bloke thought he had a chance and was edging closer so to speak?

I'm glad I don't need to date Women any more...seems like a minefield?

So there you are...unleash the pick forks. I know exactly what responses this post will attract.

I've never even heard of the bloke and there don't seem to be many articles about this other than the ones today which is why I asked when it first came to light.

Sounds a right mess.

It’s definitely an unpleasant case, and he appears to be claiming a load of rhubarb, but I don’t think anyone has said Labour is squeaky clean, no parties are.

I would imagine that the complainant did tell the married MP that she wasn’t interested in him.

I suspect also - though I can’t be certain - that the junior woman was much younger than the MP. Thus, a huge power imbalance.

Conduct unbecoming - and he has rightly stood down. It’s a shame more of them don’t do so.

On no planet is it ever okay to make advances toward someone in your employ.

As an employer who are in a place of trust and power over an employee. Its an abuse to make someone feel they have to choose between you and their career prospects. You have the whole world to choose from.

This isn't woke gone made its just common decency

No pitchforks, but why comment on something where you specifically say you’ve only skim read it? The guy has done something deeply creepy, and done so from a position of power over a junior employee.

From the article: ‘Secondly, it said Matheson took the junior staff member to a work-related dinner in January 2020 “and during the evening linked arms with her; made personal comments about her appearance while looking at her suggestively; made her hold his hand as they left and insisted on accompanying her to her bus stop; and once there invited her back to his flat, kissed her twice on the forehead and attempted to kiss her on the mouth”.

And this is from a boss to a junior staff member. It would be bad even if they were the same grade, but this is very much ‘I’m your boss and you should comply to my wishes’.

I’m pretty sure the female population would be happy with your comment that you don’t ‘have’ to date women any more. Would that suffice as a ‘pick fork’? But the way, saying such is you deliberately inviting people - it’s the forum equivalent of a Daily Mail clickbait post, which I’ve obviously fallen for.

See Viz and ‘the Male online’.

Obviously not a serious post? Back to the 1970’s? Hopefully you have never been on a jury ?

You would have to ask someone in the Labour party that question.
There is this case as well.

There is a whole list of incidents.

Labour should have suspended him once the /complaint was made! So not a text book case !! I guess they hoped it would go away ?

The idea of suspending an MP for significant periods of time doesn't make much sense to me; Suspending them denies their constituents representation and the opportunity to elect a new MP; it could also change the outcome of votes in parliament. That is punishing other people, as well as the MP in question.

So in short, good that he has resigned, perhaps he should have gone sooner, but perhaps also right that he wasn't suspended since 2019 or whenever allegation was raised.

Labour whip withdrawn (sacked from Labour) and resigned as an MP in under 90 minutes.

What's the latest on the nameless Tory alleged rapist?

Oh right. Yeah, no you make a good point. I never realised bosses were so untrustworthy with female staff?! Fancy feeling like they have power over people like that. Are they all psycho's or something? Who knew.

No, resigning is what you're supposed to do. You've grown too used to the Boris Johnson school of responsibility.
