Because KTM enduros cannot provide the "safe space" which the tuktuks have. Obvious, really. smile

(Also the tuktuks can deliver a few pizzas on the side)

No number plates. Are they awaiting registration or... ? (edit: There's a photo of the back and there's no plate, and the article mentions it being used on walkways, parks etc, implying they are intending using it where a vehicle could not usually be legally driven)

Is this genuine? Absolutely shameful if so. What were they thinking?

I love the last part of this comment:

"The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with parents telling officers that they would feel safer knowing that there was support for young people out at night, and from women who could think of an occasion when the tuk-tuk would have been a welcome sight."

What are the emissions like from a tuk-tuk? Hopefully these are BEV, otherwise they'll have to drop the M4 speed limit a bit more to compensate...

Also, I can see a new favourite pastime of Tuk Tuk Tipping on the horizon for the ne'erdowells of Newport...

As these will be driven by "Community safety guardians" I find this highly unlikely.

Would you try to tip Judge Dredd's Lawmaster?

Surely driving them "on walkways" is illegal. Not exactly setting a good example.

In reality this is just like the Ferrari - it's not a serious tool, but a sort of 'look at us, we are fun and approachable' thing. And a bit cheaper than a Ferrari.

“The force has not said how much it spent on the vehicles, which have a top speed of about 55km/h (34 mph).
But one dealer was advertising them online from £10,995”

Guessing they overpaid then

If Wales is like Bristol those would last 2 mins before being stolen....even police ones.

The thing is someone will get promoted off the back of this project.

Dumbing down really has gone too far.

Surely it should be twk twk too, given the Welsh are allergic to vowels.

I bet the local crims are wetting their pants!

I feel sorry for our modern Police force though. It must be pretty demoralising when even 13 year old schoolkids think you're pathetic?

If they are using them for a specific purpose then why is it shameful? Police walk beats, and ride horses or bikes. Is that also shameful?

It's not all high speed persuits driving Evos and Scoobys.

Apparently can do 40mph. Not many crime could outrun that on foot or bicycle.

The Police should project an air of authority, should they not? I mean if vinyl wrapping rainbows on their cars and dancing at pride events wasn't pathetic enough, now they're being seen in daylight driving tuktuks.
I mean...LOL.
Feel free to tell me I'm wrong...but it's not like we have an incredibly low crime rate in this country. I guess I'm just old school when it comes to respect for authority.

How do you project an air of authority on foot or a bicycle, or driving Skodas (as they do in my area)

I get that they look silly, but if they want or need something for a specific purpose then that's what they need.

In Spain I've seen police using similar (but electric I think) on a beach front promenade. I'd rather they can get from one end of the beach to another in a few seconds than have to wait because walking is better for their image.
