Star of Cracker, Harry Potter and "Laugh, I Nearly Paid My License Fee" just passed.

A genuine gentle giant, car buff, and could boast a CV that varied from James Bond (his Russian gangster Valentin Zukovsky being one of the high points of Pierce Brosnan's tenure IMO) to disguising himself as a nun alongside Eric Idle.

Rest easy, big guy.

"I drink too much, I smoke too much, I gamble too much. I *am* too much"

That line has always resonated with me. cry

Danny in Tutti Frutti as well. Ordering a drink in a near-deserted bar:

"Gin and tonic over here when you've recovered consciousness, pal".

Just saw it on the BBC website, for some reason that gave me a bit of an 'oh, bugger' moment.

What a shame. I loved him as Big Jazzer.

When he did his Jerry Lee Lewis skit on the piano when the rest of the band put down their instruments.
Priceless.

He did a great turn as the off-his-rocker bus driver on Still Game.

yes

Perfect TV.

His turn as Dr Jonhsone in Blackadder the Third was another highlight. A fantastic comic and dramatic actor who will be sadly missed.

The extraordinary thing is that Jerry Lee Lewis is still chugging away and yet they seemed from utterly different times.

Agree with all the comments above. Well said, folks.
One role that I really liked was in a drama called 'National Treasure', in which he played a TV celebrity accused of rape. His on screen wife was played by Julie Walters, and both actors were wonderful.

A larger than life character in many ways. RIP.

Sad news.

One of the old school great characters like Connolly always enjoyed his work.

RIP.

It’s funny how often this comes into my head despite being probably 25 years since I watched it.

I've been wondering what he's been up to.

Quite apart from his acting his motoring programmes were always worth watching; his 'B-road Britain' series was the inspiration for many of the long distance drives I've done in my Riley.

RIP Robbie.

I enjoyed his work in the comic strip. Stood on a sea wall revving a chrome chainsaw was a great moment.
