Know how you all love a bit of Mikey:

Road safety YouTuber 'CyclingMikey' 'deliberately jumped onto bonnet of Range Rover before claiming car had driven into him when it was on wrong side of the road'

A YouTuber cycling activist was accused in court today of deliberately jumping onto a celebrity agent's car bonnet so he could claim he had driven into him.

Michael Van Erp - known as CyclingMikey - was forced to deny his 'fall back position' was to go onto cars that did not stop for him.

At one point Mr Van Erp, 50, who has reported Chris Eubank, Guy Ritchie and Frank Lampard to police, was even accused of 'a pre-determined choreographed action' over the incident.

It will be interesting to see the video when he puts it on YouTube. I doubt he jumped on the bonnet like, say, one of those insurance scams.

Quite enjoy his videos at Gandalf corner. Fun watching so many entitled people get put back in their place.

Interesting an independent witness said she saw him do it twice that day.

Blimey, the Mail gives a positively unbiased account compared to the OP. laugh

Lawyer for man charged with dangerous driving tries to suggest pedestrian threw himself onto car.
Presumably the CPS saw the same video the jury were shown before they decided to charge the driver.

I said "maybe".

I'm kind of a big deal around here, known for my tough but fair approach.

LOL it sounded from the OP like Mikey was the one on trial.

I think it's highly unlikely he would jump onto the bonnet because he knows it would jepoardise getting a prosecution.

Anyway he's said he will release the video after the case. The driver sounds like a prize prat in any case:

"Lyon-Maris said he believed he had no option but to drive forward despite Mr van Erp still being on the bonnet."

I actually quite like his reasons for doing what he does, I don't necessarily quite support his approach at times mind.

I also don't believe like others he jumped on the bonnet of said vehicle either.

That being said there is brilliant value in what he does capture from people doing utterly stupid things on blind corners.

Bloke is a first class prick.

Due to bellends like this, people hate cyclists. The worst kind of people - the sort of mouthbreathing tts that read the daily mail.

Every time he goes looking for an argument and finds it, he increases the chances of some arse in a white transit doing a punishment pass on some other bugger just out to ride his bike minding his own business. It's enforced confrontation aimed solely at getting youtube clicks, and goes in the opposite direction to making things safer: bike / car synergy can only be improved via empathy, and he's driving a real "us and them" viewpoint that's the exact cause of the problem he's claiming to try to solve.

Tl;dr? File him with all the other dashcam wkers looking for drama.

The guy come across as an utter throbber and I speak as a very keen cyclist.

Unfortunately many road cyclists in particular have become a militant and bloody awkward bunch who seem to be out for confrontation with other road users. He seems to take it to another level though.

laugh Your OP suggests that it's actually Mikey that's up in court but the newspaper article tells us it's actually the car driver who is being prosecuted for dangerous driving. As Monthou says, the DM article is bad but they aren't even trying compared to you.

Van Erp may be a throbber but............

Lyon-Maris, claims Van Erp deliberately jumped onto the bonnet of his vehicle and was carried for approximately twenty yards around a right-hand corner after he admittedly ignored a 'Keep Left' arrow.

carried for approximately twenty yards .... What was the judgement for Sherrilyn Speid scratchchin

358 reports with an 80% conviction rate?. There appear to be a lot of self-entitled bellends out there.

You'd have to be some kind of moron to risk a custodial sentence on top of any motoring fines.

That being said you'd have to be some kind of moron to drive like some of the people he films.

It’s not him that’s at fault though. If people actually drive with consideration to others he wouldn’t get anywhere. The problem is the mouth breathers who think punishment passes are ok.

The poor driving was a problem long before him and long before YouTube. Unfortunately too many won’t admit how much of a problem it is.

Most of the things Mikey picks up on he is correct. As per above the 80% conviction rate.

I can't believe you are trying to suggest that Mikey is the reason that drivers take their frustration out on cyclists.
