You couldn’t make it up but you can as it’s the same old story. Lefty Neville the new darling of the Labour Party who Starmer warmly welcomed to their conference will work for the Qatar state broadcaster at this years World Cup!!

Of course nothing to do with the money Gary!! Another champagne socialist !!

Good luck with raising issues like workers rights and LGBT issues in your broadcasts !!!

With any luck he won’t come back

Not a big Gary Neville fan, but would like to understand how this makes him a hypocrite.

How about starting with this. Maybe he would like to begin his broadcast on Qatar tv with a debate on this subject as the pounds drop into his bank account.

Fits in well with Starmer another champagne socialist

The whole idea of the World Cup there is awful, on every level.
I’ve seen some places boycotting showing any of it, pubs clubs etc, brave move in this economic climate, but anyone with any real morales should frequent such places and just not watch it at home.
Poor viewing figures etc from the areas all these ‘stars’ of the World Cup make their livings, will maybe make the decision makers think twice about awarding the event to places with so morally bankrupt compared to the main audience.

Are you saying it’s not a true story? Or maybe you are typical of the left if one of your own gets criticised you try to cancel the message.

How about the story in the Guardian is that a more acceptable paper for you

Then try reading up on the founding of the Labour party, what they based their ideals on. A quick heads up - it wasn't about working for people who used slave labour, it was about helping the working class and social reform.
The guiy is a total hypocrite.

Thank you for the link.

So how does it make Gary Neville in particular a hypocrite?

Genuine question

Another report on it. You can bet your life that Neville won't say a word about the human rights abuses whilst pocketing the cash. Ramsay Macdonald and Keir Hardie will be spinning in their graves looking at these "New Labour" hypocrites.

Think you are on the wrong forum if you really don’t understand that. Or maybe just another champagne socialist ? Do some research on Qatar and the World Cup then think about those who line their own pockets on the back of it. Neville claims he stands for things like workers rights and the rights of the LGBT community etc wonder how that works in Qatar? Perhaps you could explain ?

Here is the truth about the Qatar World Cup. 14 out of the 22 FIFA ExCo members who were involved in the Qatar vote, have since been banned or discredited for "dubious practices" - corruption. Neville did a sort of documentary back in 2019 - did he ask any inconvenient questions then? No, of course he didn't.

I had no interest in what Gary Neville had to say before and even less interest now. He’s a TV personality with an average social media following, not a political leader.

It’s incredibly easy to pretend he doesn’t exist. I’d suggest trying it and lower your blood pressure.

Why do you keep using a hackneyed old phrase like ‘champagne socialist?’ I’m always struck by the fact that a certain type of person goes into meltdown when faced with wealthy people who aren’t died in the wool Tories, it seems to mess with their senses. Do you think low income people who vote Tory are similarly hypocritical?

Why are you getting so vexed about a footballer turned commentator going about his business, do you think his political views and commentating on the World Cup are not compatible? Did the Daily Mail tell you what to think again?

I mean really, its just political points scoring what a non story. So how about...

Right wingers should by definition then be the only people allowed to work at the world cup because they must not care about LBGT+ or human rights?

or...how better to highlight Qatar's human rights issues than to place those who are vocal about it slap bang in the middle of their showpiece event?

or...this is life people, we all have opinions but we are hypocrites at different levels. I bet some of you have friends with negative views on LGBT+/race/gender/environment, do you disown all of them? Or do you still talk to them and stay friends with them?

or...how many of you work for a company that works with other companies that have reputations you would typically not associate yourself with? Did you quit your job on the spot due to your moral obligations?

Fact of the matter is no one is going to boycott watching the world cup, those pubs not showing it (who probably happily serve customers in normal times who are anti LGBT+ or whatever, so whats going on there) will just miss out as people crowd into those that do.
