Well it seems certain places are banning WC public screenings which as in the manner of the way they were awarded the tournament and human rights abuse feels right, should we do the same ?

Too woke, go broke.

Totally pointless protest. The migrant worker issue sounds fair enough, but that should have been solved as part of the bid. The climate change piece is just ridiculous virtue signalling.

I'm guessing the real reason is the frogs won't have enough electricity to power the giant screens.......

Are the Qataris not buying enough Renaults?

Normally developed countries are quite happy to turn a blind eye towards regimes killing and torturing people as long as the money keeps flowing in the right direction.

Given that England are going to struggle to get out of the group stage maybe we should say we aren’t sending a team at all as a protest against the regime? Feels like a win win to me.

Unless I'm missing something, seems like local, city level decisions.

I very much doubt that those making the decisions had any more say in the bidding process of the World Cup than anyone who wasn't FIFA did.

I think we all know how this World Cup ended up in Qatar.

Pointless gesture politics.

If you want to protest, don't send your national team. Cut ties with them economically etc.

I imagine the Qataris are super pissed off that people won't be watching the games in public spaces in some areas of France, and will certainly be rethinking their societal ways....

Deputy Mayor of Lille said:
As for residents' reactions to the city's decision, he added: "I have yet to meet a person in Lille who was disappointed by our decision."
In December I'm not too surprised either.
