Pregnant Woman in Spanish Jail

Not sure if a thread is already going but a women was find 420 euros over drunken altercation in Malaga in 2021, she returned home without paying the fine, then went on a holiday to Tenerife in August 2022, of course she was arrested at the airport and jailed.

Now moaning that she could forced to give birth in a Spanish jail, baffles me why she chose to go back on holiday a year later.

She knew the fine was outstanding to the point that she brought money to pay for it "just in case". So she should have made sure she paid it beforehand. Like at the time it was due. No sympathy for her.

This is typical of the petty vindictive mindset that some EU countries have towards UK citizens post brexit.Where is their EU charter now?

A young pregnant woman abroad thrown in prison with a squat hole for a toilet are they serious?

It just needed a bit of common sense to let her pay the fine and go on her way now the Spanish taxpayer is looking at a big net loss on the case because of a vindictive judge.

Spain has been pretty Chavy for years now and this kind of incident does their image no favours whatsoever.

So when arrested and held for an admitted offence, they need facilities different to those provided for native citizens? Don't think so.
And she was given the chance to pay the fine, and chose not to. Actions have consequences, just like having Greggs three times a day has consequences.

Best solution would be for her to be deported, and serve her sentence in the UK. Could we claim her accommodation costs back afterwards?

The common sense would have been for her to pay the fine when she was supposed to, and not "hope" that she had gotten away with it. FWIW the Spanish system (fine/community punishment followed by jail if you don't comply) doesn't seem hugely different to ours.

What the Spanish taxpayer is doing is punishing her but also reminding others of what might happen to them if they break the law.
