The interviewer of the 16 year old leader of a school strike for climate had done her research.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgGSAvZtTlM

"“So we would have to apply to have like, approved events to be able to fly for?” du Plessis-Allan asked.

“Well that’s one thing that you could look at doing,” Cook said.

“Am I allowed to go to Fiji? Is that necessary?” du Plessis-Allan asked.

Cook replied, “In the current climate crisis I don’t think that that’s necessary.”

The host then asked when was the last time Cook was on a plane.

“Mm, I’m not sure – maybe a few months ago to be honest,” she said.

“Where’d you go?” the host asked.

“Fiji,” Cook conceded."

Needless to say the interviewer has been accused by Cook's mum of bullying her.

Not sure this is news. I don't even think what Liz Truss thought at 16 is news.

Of course it is. MSM are desperate to interview kids and young people for their views fears about climate change, you see it all the time. The difference being this is pointing out their hypocrisy rather than the usual fawning over them and their cause. In other words, bringing a bit of balance to the subject. Maybe a bit of introspection will help them in the future and make them think about their actions more carefully when it comes to their cause.

That's not how kids are taught to be these days though is it

Goal is to produce mindless drones and box tickers rather than critical thinkers

I'm going to guess you've not met any young people recently.

The reality is the polar opposite.

An ironically mindless comment; whose goal is this, and do you have any concrete evidence there's a concerted agenda to produce 'mindless drones and box tickers rather than critical thinkers'?

We could then look at why, of course, but I think the assertion fails pretty early on.

Climate change comes under politics and economics I would say. Views may differ. Appeared to be from news coverage of a school strike demo.

Posted because I thought it was a good example of green campaigners hypocrisy. Like the UK mob wanting to ban fossil fuel but touring in a diewel bus.

The doc who (correctly) told me I needed to lose weight was a fat bd.

Losing weight still changed my life.

Indeed. And for the usual hard-of-thinking crowd here: attacking the messenger and calling people hypocrites is lazy, even if you're right.

Explain why she is wrong and in fact we don't need to think about reducing the number of flights we take, or GTFO.

Not the same thing though. Your doctor could have lost loads of weight, but that would have had no impact on your life.

The whole issue of climate change requires everyone to be on board, it's not something you can tell others to do and ignore yourself.

This is the problem - people stand on this high horse, tell us how to live our lives, then are hypocrites themselves, and then hide behind their mum!

Jordan Peterson said it so well - clean your own god damn room before trying to tell other people how to clean theirs.

Except that the impact of people making changes to their lives individually is very small.

Most people concerned about the enviroment don't want to see the end of modern life. They want to force Governments and Corporations to make the big, macro level investments and changes that are needed that would have the biggest impacts.

Most consumers for example don't know that palm oil is in a huge variety of products. You could educate them all, and get them to make better choices. Or you could lobby the corporations that make the products and get them to reformulate the product. The problem is of course, it suits profitability for consumers to slowly switch to different products, and its not very profitable to make a big reformulation of the product.

Pointing out hypocrisy isn't lazy, shouldn't really have to explain why telling everyone else they should not be able to fly whilst jetting off on holiday yourself is wrong.
