This should be an interesting one to watch. People might think the current U.K. Government is to the right, Italy might be on steroids. Watch out EU this could be a very rough ride

Van de layen is already issuing threats about what they will do to Italy if they do .. even before the voting finished

Since the end of World War II in 1945, Italy has had 69 governments, at an average of one every 1.11 years

If Giorgia Meloni really is a fascist monster as the MSM would have us believe, I notice there's absolutely no introspection to be seen and a complete unwillingness to ask "how did we get to this point".

And yet, there are still plenty of folks who can't understand why Brexit happened!

No one that I’ve spoken to here (Western tip of Sicily) seems really that bothered about the elections. We were in the regional capital today (Trapani) and apart from a couple of banners, nothing flagged it up. It’s almost as though governments are so temporary that no one worries about who is current and incoming, it’s not like they’ll be here long anyway smile

The BBC covered this on Friday AM, and made it very clear who the baddies were.

Not sure Meloni is as anti-EU as some here would have you believe.
Her first stated aim is to get more EU money from the covid relief fund. Rest of her policies could be straight from the Tory playbook. Lower tax, tough on immigrants etc.

The others in the "planned" coalition are the real right wing nutjobs.

Or claim the number who voted for the winning option isn't more than 50% of the voting-age population......

Since May 2015, the UK has had eight governments, an average of less than a year each over that period. wink

I'm watching that Italian 10Y bond yield because debt to GDP is just over 150% currently. The ECB has said it will intevene to buy Italian bonds and protect Italy but one assumes a prerequisite is Italy meeting its obligations.

Interesting statement. I’m not sure how you define ‘government’ as to get to your number you need to add together leadership changes and general elections which don’t change governments. There was a coalition government until ‘15. Since then there has been conservative government under different directions.

I think technically in the UK a government change is when HM appoints a new PM. So May's government did change to Boris's and now to Truss for example.

I know - you have to be careful using that term on PH. Even Hitler was a socialist to some on here.

The laughable things is that put any search around Italian politics into google etc. and it's almost impossible to find out what the actual policies of this party are as every result just seems to focus on "far right", "hard right" or "fascist" with little or no actual information on why they believe this is the case.

Don't know much about Italy but apparently Giorgia Meloni was part of the Youth Front which is the youth wing of a neo-fascist movement.

I'm sure I've heard of something like that before scratchchin

Fratelli Di’Italia’s roots can be traced directly back to Mussolini’s fascists and their politics are definitely on the fringes of the right.

Policies on increasing the “native birthrate” are straight out of the fascist playbook

Odd that some here like to dismiss any idea of far right politics taking a hold while simultaneously claiming that anyone at a protest in a black hoodie is a far left agitator.
