What a great job he did at Westminster Hall addressing King Charles and Camilla. Confident, respectful and dignified. No sign of nerves when he knew he was being watched by billions of people. Well done that man!

Just imagine if that tw at Bercow had still been speaker. It would have been all about him.

I like him a lot, everything he should be ,and everything Bercow wasn't.

I used to think he came across as a daft northern butcher, who had reached his maximum potential in life by serving chops to Mavis and Edna with a cheeky grin.

But yeah, he’s doing ok now.

Totally agree with this. Hoyle puts Bercow to shame. It's great to see someone do the job with aplomb rather than raise past political affiliations.

On a similar note, I thought Penny Mordaunt was impressive too.

I was just hoping it was nothing, and that it was a badly paid nothing.

Bercow stood up to the Government, and fought for the supremacy of Parliament in setting law, which in my eyes is only a good thing. Hoyle meekly protests, and lets the Government walk all over him.

In style though, Hoyle is preferable to Bercow. Things took 3 times as long with Bercow cos he had to make it like amatuer drama hour.

Not sure I agree with the bit in bold: Hoyle comes across as a man with gravitas & a proper 'no nonsense' approach. I don't think he'll put up with BS & had he been speaker during the brexit impasse debacle would have, IMO, done a far better job than Bercow.

I genuinely think that's the first complaint I've ever read about Hoyle's performance in the job.

I'm not particularly keen to open a debate on Brexit, but I think it suffices to say, I think Hoyle would have let the Government of the day get away with alot of the shenanigans it was pulling, at the long term detriment of Parliament.

In the short term, no doubt those who wanted Brexit done would have been pleased, but it would have set dangerous precedents for future Governments to circumvent the will of Parliament.

He was banned from Parliament permanently yesterday because of his bullying. With it went his chances of entering the House of Lords. That should be news to your liking.

Bercow was also banned for life from parliament;

Nasty little man. Lindsay Hoyle is the perfect antidote.

Indeed. I don't disagree with some of his actions as speaker, it was more his style, manner and tone that grated. The bullying case also seems to have proven that he wasn't very nice.

It's a valid complaint. Hoyle is far too weak in controlling the govt's abuses of power and procedure, and doesn't do nearly enough to demand ministers answer questions. Bercow, for all his many faults, didn't let members get away with nearly as much nonsense as Hoyle does.

Oh for another Betty Boothroyd.

+1 for another Betty Boothroyd. Now there was a Speaker.
