She’s hopelessly promoted way way beyond her skill set - Liz has made a huge error.

The idea is to ensure someone is not cleverer than her in the number two seat. Liz has achieved that to no end. That was the only criteria for that position.

Politicians today eh? She (Coffey) was on Nick Ferrari's LBC this morning. Her alarm went off, Dr Dre!!

What a 'profile' for the country's health crisis and obesity... mind you, perhaps that's Truss's reason to appoint her, many will recognise something about Coffey in themselves.

Matt Hancock appeared to be a trim fellow, with an inexplicable appeal to at least one female colleague. He was, however, utterly incompetent and a disaster when dealing with COVID-19. One's body shape is not, it appears, directly related to one's performance in office.

I intend to reserve judgement on Therese Coffey for the time being.

Is there any evidence she's hopeless or is it mainly a sex/size issue?

Not a great advert for the NHS.

biggrin Funnily enough that was my 12,001st post. In about 10,000 of them I basically ask "Did you really mean X?". I've even been told off for it once or twice. laugh

According to the Kings Fund, obesity cost the NHS £6.1b in 2014/15 and expected to rise to £9b by 2050.
As the new SoS for the NHS, they could have at least appointed someone who wasn’t obese. Hence, not being a great advert for them.
But yet again, she’s an old uni friend of the new PM, and we all know it’s jobs for the boys (or girls), or whatever she is.

Well going by that picture she appears to be to health what Dianne Abbott is to numeracy so perhaps it's not an unfair comparison unless she's on a vigorous fitness\weight loss campaign right now

I appreciate that obesity is a big problem. As are smoking and drinking and the broad problem of having an aging society. I just don't think the fact that she is fat makes much difference to that. And being honest, I don't think that a Tory government is ever going to do anything much to try to address any of those issues anyway. Trying to stop people doing those things just isn't very Tory is it?

Trying to work out why any health secretary would need to be an advert for the NHS (and if you have actually been near the NHS in recent years I suspect Ms Coffey is an exemplar)?

Obesity does not cost the NHS a thing - complications arising from obesity do........

so if you need to be the picture of health to be health secretary then do you need to be a semi-detached to be a housing secretary.....

Female equivalent of Ken Clarke IMHO.

From what I've seen a fair proportion of the staff working in the NHS don't exactly look like they follow a doctrine of healthy living - if and when the new Health Secretary decides to do any site visits I doubt she'll look terribly different from many of the health professionals around her....

Abbott achieved a 2:2 in History from Newnham College, Cambridge. Thérèse graduated from University College London with a PhD in chemistry.
So yeah just because she likes cigars .

Correct. They should be setting an example for clean living, starting with the staff.
