Liz Truss 'Prepared' To Scrap Legal Speed Limit On Roads

https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/liz-truss-p...

Liz Truss, the frontrunner in the Tory leadership contest, has said she is “prepared” to look at abolishing speed limits.
Taking questions at the final hustings of the campaign on Wednesday evening, the foreign secretary was asked if she would consider scrapping the speed limit.
“On speed limits, again, I’d be prepared to look at that,” she said.
Truss also told the audience of Tory members in London she would “stop” smart motorways.........continues

Probably, with the advance of EVs, speed limits will be set by the onboard computer instead. Great for us dinosaurs who still drive ICE-powered devices. laugh

“Prepared to look at”.

If you think this’ll happen, I’ve got some magic beans to sell you.

I did post it with my tongue in my cheek as they say. Typical throw away remark politicians make when they want to be elected.

I would suggest she, as others do and an understandable part of general human nature before we get sidetracked, would say pretty much anything if she thinks it might land her the job.

An answer of prepared to look at seems pretty standard political evasion where they try and avoid saying no.

Lizz Truss prepared to come out with any crowd pleasing non-committal nonsense with zero chance of ever being implemented.

Leaving aside the prospect of it happening just where is there likely to be any chance of achieving significant speed ?

SInce Covid & fuel prices driving standards have got worse with all the middle lane hogs driving slower (to save fuel......) and forcing more people into the overtaking lane and as a result lowering the typical speed achievable

She will do nothing of the sort. Never heard so many promises in my life, none of which will ever be delivered in reality.

If they’d said they would change the speed limit on motorways to 130kph I’d have voted remain.

Soundbite for gullible tories. Scary thing is that it works.

No doubt a certain self-asserted motorway champion will be along soon to fall for it.

The context to the answer she gave is that the question related to smart motorways and the arbitrary limits that are sometimes placed on them, rather than a blanket removal of speed limits per se.

Johnson will be leader again at the next election because it's what the dumbarsed Tory party membership, drunk on its victory in finally attaining their destructive dream of leaving the EU out of nothing but spite and xenophobia, wants.

Nothing she says matters.

Rearrange the following words into a well known phrase or saying: Liz Truss an abject moron is.

the UK will never get a motorway with an advisory-only speed as opposed to the current legal limit.

And seriously, would we want to? Not having a legal speed limit means relying on individual drivers' judgements. There are already enough accidents from idiots who can't drive as per the conditions with the current speed limits in place.

We just don't have the discipline that e.g. German drivers have.

You mean a clickbait story to drive the gullible to their site.

They have sniped words and completely taken them out of context I watched the hustings, the question was around making those arbitrary limits we often see on smart motorways advisory, the question had nothing to do with the removal of the national speed limit nor did her answer.

It was around the inappropriate setting of low temporary limits on smart motorways, which is an issue.

A nothing headline. A better focus would be on her saying she will scrap smart motorways. A very good idea
