With the cost of living crisis and the huge hike in energy prices, councils up and down the country are planning "warm banks" for people who can't afford to heat their homes.

Can it not be done is less taxis, if Jayden and Kanye go in the back, with Ellesse and McNugget, then Umbro can sit on Taibo’s knee, with Skegness in the front. Dave and chainsaw can walk.

I didn't think this was a completely new thing?

You already hear of pensioners popping to libraries or cafes because it's cheaper to do that than to heat their homes.

Presume the big difference is things are going to be so broken they now have an official name.

Well, the alternative would be getting mad at the government, so we get this deflection instead hehe

Welcome to broken Britain! Remember you voted for these charlatans and these are just the first steps into the sunny uplands etc etc...

Pensioners with a free bus pass can spend all day travelling around in the warmth of the buses heaters and they get to see the sights too smile

Given that, thanks to huge cuts in funding, councils have closed libraries and cuts busses, many people have no option to walk. But, no, rather than look at the utter mess the government have made of everything, where we have stupid plans about people sitting in public buildings because they can’t afford basics like heating, let’s make up people to look down on and make insulting and condescending comments to make sure we can keep feeling superior.

It’s fking awful the way people dehumanise others to avoid any risk of empathy.

Some really pathetic comments here from people who don’t realise this is a serious issue and a pretty tragic one for a first world country.

I say this on a lot of threads and I’m going to stop as I bore myself, but as most people supported the Covid restrictions and handouts then I think the bill becoming due is quite reasonable and realistic. Hopefully they kept a bit of furlough back from that time they closed my business down and locked me in the house!

Could you explain to me how a pensioner or someone on minimum wage being unable to heat their home is somehow "quite reasonable" please?

It seems an extraordinarily bitter take on things.

it's typical of a forum which has threads specifically for making fun of poor people or not the right perceived social class. i'm sure haymarket or whoever owns us now is proud they keep dadsnet going for free

My only hope is that there's a measure of keyboard warrior in these people, I can't believe that there are many people who think like that irl.

Standard response from certain posters. Apportion blame and then dismiss the issue by suggestig people just need to get rif of thir PCP cars, McDonalds, scratchcards and Netflix and it'll be fine.

Never sure if it's a psychological defense mechanism, naivety or just assholes TBH. Society in 2022, what a joy..
