I know the city has a bad reputation for crime but man, what a dire place.

This is a tragic story with a 9 year old shot in the chest

I can't get my head around a 9 year old being in harms way and why someone could ever shoot at a child. more will come out over the coming days and weeks but it's a shocking end to a young life

Yep
27 year old woman shot dead in her home by a gang that burst in.
Her then 16 year old brother was shot dead a few years back
I've just read this, both were not the intended target / mistaken identity etc. For that to happen twice to members of the same family seems remarkable to me.27 year old woman shot dead in her home by a gang that burst in.
Her then 16 year old brother was shot dead a few years back
The young woman who had lost her half brother to a mistaken identity murder in 2015 and was killed on Sunday...

50 year old woman stabbed and murdered in a pub on Monday...

The 9 year old was also shot and killed on Monday evening...

Its more the councils, the authorities, the police, the lawyers and judges etc. its about their opinion on how to tackle crime in that area.Seemingly they are not doing any where near enough to all work together for the common goal of preventing crime.
Generally speaking across much of the country, Councils/authorities are politically swung and would rather spend public tax money on diversity tick boxes and promotion of woke agendas.
Police also would rather spend time promoting the woke agenda, by painting cars in pretty rainbow colours, danging the macarena, and wasting money on harassing people who make non-PC comments on social media.
Judges are seemingly wanting to shy away from dishing out harsh sentencing in order to keep giving criminals a 5th, 6th, 7th, 100th chance to choose the right path in life.
The UK at the moment is very disjointed, incoherent and directionless on crime, nobody seems to want to work together for a common purpose. Everything is politically charged agendas out for their own gain. And no government yet has actually done anything to improve the situation.

Terrible stuff.
'The man with the gun was following a 35-year-old man with no connection to the family into the house and opened fire, hitting Cheryl and injuring her before then fatally wounding Olivia, who was standing directly behind Cheryl.'
Terrible story.. Listening to Times Radio. Apparently the mum Cheryl opened her front door to see what was going on outside, the shooter sees her and then forces his way into their house and starts shooting.. That poor kid - I don't understand how this can happen, and if it did happen this way, Cheryl will punish herself for opening the front door... There's no way she could have predicted what would happen in doing so.

Sympathy to the family on this awful day......
Senseless killing of a little girl. R.I.P. Olivia

That is awful; your home, your safe place for your family and children.

Sounds like the police have made some significant progress already. They'll be throwing resources at a this, a shame that this will ultimately lead to other investigations stalling and other areas going under-resourced as they pool their people on this enquiry (of course, it is worthy of all the efforts available to catch this scum).
