See BBC Link - Police dashcam video included.

Police allowed to do something about nuisance off-road bikers tearing around pavements. Wonder what will happen if one of these bikers gets injured and sues.

Just make sure they drive over them, then they can't sue.

laugh user name definitely checks out.

And., I agree with the sentiment, although one of the serial hand wringers is going to pop up with a strawman about a broken home or police racism.

Dam it , police car wasn't going fast enough, still a good effort though and I'm far more onboard with this than pussy footing around worried about getting suedclap

I was sent a clip about exactly this approach by the Brazilian public - it seems as though it was in response to scooter gangs harassing and then mugging folk, using scooters as the transport.

The public were (actively?) encouraged (by the Mayor/politicians in one or more cities), if they spotted a crime with such delinquents involved to ram the scooter, passengers and all and to hell with any repercussions.

I'm all for that, I'm just worried about when they ram the wrong bikes though, cos they will.

I don’t think the word “nuisance” covers it. They are a danger. However, ram also seems a little over the top, as it gives visions of high speed PIT manoeuvres when in reality it is knocking over the bike at the petrol station.

These are not bikers.

These are thugs, mostly on scooters.

This seemed to work for the scooter thefts that were happening in London a while ago.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the wrong bikes?

The footage is real, the claim that the authorities are allowing or encouraging it more dubious. More a case of it all going a bit Wild West.

Some off-road motorcyclists do not have the best relationship with the police. Mostly this stems from ignorance of the law by the police.

I’m guessing the concern is that the police will end up ramming someone who has done nothing wrong.

It’s ok, bikes ridden by professional athletes will have signs on them saying “professional athlete do not ram”

Wasn't completely against the idea til I watched the video.

In a petrol station? Seems pretty stupid tbh. Worth the risk of something going badly wrong to catch a couple of scrotes?

Whilst I agree they should do it, any cops doing so must be mad to knock a biker off, even if they are allowed to. Any backing from the police force can be turned off like a tap whenever it suits them. Thats is going to open up a very large can of wriggly worms for the cop at some point in the future.
