Edinburgh to ban strippers from taking their clothes off
Discussion
Prohibition is never the answer. I used to live next to the “pubic triangle” area and knew people who worked in the clubs. It was a good way to earn money if you had the confidence for it.
This is puritanism masquerading as feminism and it’s largely driven by the council wanting to close the clubs in the west end to continue the march of gentrification for tourists.
There’s no good women’s safety argument for closing legal and licensed clubs.

Not in favour of strip clubs. Would you want your daughter - or son - having that as their career ambition? Or is it just ok for other people's children?
You could argue the same about many 'professional' 100k+ jobs in the City Of London that also require a morality bypass. You know what these people need to do...stop sticking their noses in places its not welcome, leave people alone to do what they want they're not harming anyone, its their choice to work wherever they like to earn a wage.
I hate big brother attitudes...they need to be told in no uncertain terms to fk off.

Ugly old bint say she doesn't want attractive women working in a safe environment because she doesn't like it. She said it wasn't safe, people were pushed into sex etc however the stripper lady said it was very safe, her choice and their union/legal team had already prosecuted people who stepped out of line ('viewers'). Additionally, driving it underground was far more dangerous for them.
Council woman is basically saying 'I don't like what you do and I think it should be banned. Off you go and find a new job'. She should mind her own business.
As said, way too many petitioning to stop things they don't like because they don't like them and coming up with unjustified excuses as to why they should be banned.

I’d let that be their choice as adults. Largechris said:

I’d let that be their choice as adults. Strippers make more money that most auto engineers! Certainly more than the st ones.

The whole "ugly women don't like stripping" thing isn't useful tbh, ITV probably picked the women they did for exactly that reason.
There is plenty of things to disagree with without resorting to personal attacks and misogyny.
There would be a lot less posts in NPE without personal attacks and misogyny. There is plenty of things to disagree with without resorting to personal attacks and misogyny.

I'll start that I'm not against strip clubs at all, but the pubic triangle was horrible 10-15 years ago.My (17 year old) partner worked on Lothian road as a student and her student accommodation was down the grassmarket. She got a lot of hassle from some of the clientele and if she was working a later shift id have to walk her home. Several times people were shooting up in the telephone box. It may have changed as I left Edinburgh 12 years ago. The problem is that the strip clubs get the blame for what's happening in three local area.
It shouldn't be getting shut down but they should be policing the area, it brings in enough cash!

I’d let that be their choice as adults. Or just you, perhaps.

I was "dragged along" to one on my stag do. Girl dancing said she was doing to to pay for her degree and living costs while at uni. She was studying to be a chemical engineer so that seemed a canny career ambition and she seemingly had the acumen to work out it was probably an easy way of earning money Edited by pavarotti1980 on Tuesday 9th August 09:59

I'd agree that area was rough. That was how I was able to afford to live there . Lothian Road and the Cowgate were always the wilder areas for a night out but you'd have more chance of trouble at one of the big pubs on bread st than at one of the clubs. My (17 year old) partner worked on Lothian road as a student and her student accommodation was down the grassmarket. I went past where my flat was recently and the whole doorway was full of those little air bnb key safes. It's sad imo.

I’d say that once their of age your sons & daughters can and should make their own decisions.Edited by bad company on Tuesday 9th August 10:12
