That'll annoy someone.

I wonder how all the bellicose threats from PRC will pan out.

CHINA ANNOUNCES MILITARY DRILLS ENCIRCLING TAIWAN FROM AUG. 4-7

Should be a fun visit if she sticks around for the light show.

If it turns out to change China's stance on Ukraine it really will be one of the stupidest things an American politician has ever done.

From what I’ve observed she’s a rather unpleasant arrogant old crone thats full of st so sadly your suggestion might be close to the mark ..

She's calling their bluff...threats from China have never materialised into anything, just like North Korea all wind and pish.

Agree. What kind of conflict pretext is a diplomatic visit?

There really was no need though wasn’t there. China have kept their nose out of the Russia v Ukraine war but if they decide to start helping out Russia to get back at the USA that’s a massive balls up.

Visit next year if you really needed to go.

Massive self inflicted own goal … all so completely avoidable

Three USN naval battle groups off the island, 8 F15 fighters escorting the VIP flight into Taiwan

Chinese military running live fire exercises and mass incursions into Taiwan airspace because of it

Why ?

Stirring up a hornets nest makes zero sense, particularly at this moment .. moving away from the line of ambiguity makes zero sense

Playing it all out in public makes zero sense but saying that once she said she was going and the US govt started wavering and China threatening .. not going would have been a huge climb down and loss of face

Hey ho

As an Australian living down under, we've been subjecting to years of Chinese bullying and economic warfare.

I accept the arguments people put forth around the visit being controversial, and I'm no fan of Pelosi, however I do like to see the Chinese being stood up too like this.

Furthermore, it's interesting to see the history of how China allegedly bribed the UN to vote Taiwan back under them and to lose their UN seat, with good rewards issued should said vote happen (google the African delegates dancing in the aisle as the vote went against Taiwan which angered Reagan and Nixon at the time).

There won't be much more than sabre rattling happening for the moment however, the Chinese will attack Taiwan commercially, just like they have with us Australians.
More trumped up restrictions on Taiwanese companies and products no doubt. The massive Chinese Bot Machine attacking every part of Taiwanese social networking and IT attacks ramped up significantly.

It’s lessons learnt from Russia…if you don’t stand up to bullies, they think they can push it further and then you end up in a worse mess.

I think we will see increasing Chinese isolationism under Xi as their demographic nightmare starts to bite and he tries to hold it all together. Making sure that volatility doesn’t leak out into the wider world will be vital.

That's exactly it; a shot across the bows to dissuade a further emboldened China from doing to Taiwan what Russia did to Crimea. Viewed through that prism she couldn't not visit.

Appeasement doesn’t work. The only people issuing threats or escalating are the Chinese.

It’s Putin and NATO again and the same people that think we should let dictators control other countries and that nations have some sort of right to a sphere of influence.

I can’t help but think with this and the al-qaeda story, the US is making quite some power moves, presumably to highlight Russia and Chinas impotence.
