If only there was some alternative medium over which we could communicate or some alternative way of getting packages delivered.

And you don't think that is value for money?

Not really.

Wider point though is a 300% increase over the past 20 years. This should be enough to find some scraps for the workers.

I suspect it's going to the shareholders. Actually, from the Beeb article, I know it is.

"While bosses rake in £758m in profit and shareholders take £400m, workers are expected to take a serious real-terms pay cut,"

I would estimate that 90% of the stuff I find in my post box is junk mail.

And the 10% that’s not could easily be converted to the electronic stuff I already receive.

£1 from 2022 would be 6p in 1971.

I can post a envelope in a post box which is 50m from my house and it will be delivered anywhere in GB the next morning for 95p. Doesn't sound bad value to me, if you need such a service.

Feel free to provide us with examples of a similar or better service offered at a similar or better price point in any comparable European country...

It's notable that the amount the workers get isn't actually stated- any reason for not mentioning this? Could it be that they're getting a decent slice of the pie but not choosing to acknowledge that?

Guess who are a major group of shareholders having been handed 913 free ones each during privatisation?

There's been pushback from the management over this - the workers seem to have practices that make the railways seem ultra modern and unlike the railways they have a lot of competition waiting to steal their jobs from under them.

It depends if you think £23k pa is a decent slice or not.

Of 77% so not as many as first implied are pissed off enough to vote for it

Wasn’t there a thread on this a couple of weeks ago?

I think the issue with this strike is that most people won’t notice. As someone has already said, the majority of stuff received in the post isn’t very important, or even desired. The rest can be shifted to apps or the electronic version of mail.

Plenty of other options for Parcel delivery.

If you need such a service. If.

But most people don’t.

And if you reduce demand to such a *needs* level from a ‘it’s handy and reasonably priced so I will use it’ level then the volume would fall to such a level that it wouldn’t cost you 95p to operate the current service but £95.

Virtually no letters delivered to me by Royal Mail couldn’t have been sent electronically, and the parcels they deliver could have been sent by one of the many other delivery companies.
