I put up posts of either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss becoming Prime Minister a few month's back.
My prediction is, it will either be Sunak, Truss or Mordaunt taking the post..
Sunak will be on the ballot of two next Thursday, with Truss and Mordaunt fighting it out to be the other contender..

As this is my prediction, be prepared for a Dorries v Johnson (as late entrants) fighting it out! As if those two could possibly fight! biggrin

The more I see of Penny the more I like the cut of her jib - the way she evicerated crayons across the despatch box, then the fat controller, was simply joyous.

...Penny or Kemi would do nicely.

But anyone, simply anyone, other than Rishi, Jeremy (to borrow Victoria Derbyshire's term) or peanut head please.

Had to laugh listening to I think rabb saying rishi will unite the country from all corners. He speaks for the people holly hell man what planet are you living in.

Do agree penny would make a great pm and another female leader but suspect rishi will get the job so the Tories can say look we have the first ethnic leader look at us etc.

She just did a half hour interview on LBC and I was reasonably impressed. She seems like a normal person, neither posh nor coarse, and of course she hails from Portsmouth, unquestionably the greatest city in the world. I may be biased in saying that..........

She clarified her history and views on trans issues and her position struck me as entirely sensible. She says that corporation tax rates should be competitive, but doesn't want the leadership campaign to become a 'tax auction'. She wants net zero but says we must avoid the sillier elements of that aim.

I think she'd be popular with the Tory members, but will the MP's put someone into the final two who would be 'learning on the job'?

I like her. I like that she is a reserve in the Royal Navy.

I also like Femi. A black, young woman as Prime Minister would be great. All labour have is an old white bloke as leader...

I assume you mean Kemi? Kemi Badenoch? She's an interesting character, although I don't care about her gender or skin colour.

It seems that MP's face a choice: those outside Boris' inner circle such as Mordaunt, Tugendhat, Badenoch and Hunt, or those from within being Zahawi, Truss, Sunak and Braverman. Tried and tested (sort of) or a clean slate?

If I was to place a bet on the final two, right now, I'd bet on Sunak versus Mordaunt.

Sunak is getting more unpopular with people as the campaign goes on. His false and forced smile does not make up for his complete lack of personality and his campaign video (branding) isn’t going to go down well with a lot of people. He can’t handle difficult questions at all.

Alongside that, you can argue over his approach to tax (I actually agree with him) but it’s not a popular approach/vote winner. At the end of the day most MPs only care if they get voted in not that the policies are any good!

My prediction is Sunak will lose to Mordaunt in the final vote

I’ll hold my hands up though and say I know nothing as I actually think given a free vote the conservative voters would choose Johnson still smile

I agree - I think the party members will chose the person they feel is more likely to win the next GE, and Penny is surely more appealing to the electorate than Rishi. By 'appealing', I don't mean the obvious fact that she's easier on the eye than Rishi, but unlike Rishi, she isn't mired by a proximity to the sleaze issue. Unlike Rishi, she's engaging to listen to (a proper communicator) and unlike Rishi, she doesn't come across as privileged or posh, despite being well-spoken. Also, unlike Rishi, she appears to have a sincerity in her voice.

I mentioned in another thread that she comes across as quite "girl next door" and I think that's what the Conservative party needs right now - a 'real' person....

IMHO
I’d like Penny for PM.

She isn’t tainted with the Johnson sleaze like Sunak, and he just seems too polished for my liking. He sat in government knowing it was becoming a st show and his web site for leadership has been under construction for months. We don’t need any more of that duplicity in No.10. Haven’t we had enough bankers and their friends in high office? Thinking that his wife could get away with tax free non-dom status, while asking the country to tighten its belts shows a chronic lack of ability to read the room. Legal though it is, its doesn’t read well, no matter you look at it.

Kemi for home secretary, its about time we had someone with a decent technical bias in senior government. As an engineer I am not biased in anyway…. She is destined for even higher office, just not yet.

Have to agree with most of the comments here, I think she is far more relatable than most of the others, she isn't tainted by the current bunch and seems to have some sensible ideas. Hopefully the party will see sense...

Introduced the regressive no rights employment element of ir35 in the middle of a pandemic the postponed it know most large firms had already implemented it. So denied freelancers furlough and access to bounce back loans all in one go.....while his wife happily claimed 100k in furlough ans snaffled money overseas....

She's in the RN Reserves but claims in a statement she's in the RN which qualifies her to defeat the SNP apparently!

She also lied on LBC about a lie she told regarding veto of Turkey joining the EU.

She's just the same as the others.

She's also quite prepared to enter into a trade war with the EU, not a good idea.

Think something's gone wrong with Nadhim Zahawi's campaign website.....! biggrin

Nadhim Zahawi is using NZ4PM as his leadership election tag. If you click on http://NZ4PM.com you are redirected to Penny Mordaunt’s leadership home page. Comedy gold. You gotta love this contest.
