What's the betting this chap is the shortest (duration not height) serving chancellor in history ?
By resignation, sacking or reshuffle by next leader.

A joint two guy money tree jamboree that was planned between him and Boris today - Thursday. This was announced with a flourish by an excited James Duddridge yesterday evening. It was then altered to "next week" within an hour.
Mr James Duddridge seemed very excited in his announcement. I suspect his days as a secretary or chief announcer to the PM can be counted in hours.
If such excitement was meant to portray confidence it failed.
Also in the news it's come out that Nadhim Zahawi's finances were investigated by the NCA. That's the UK National Crime Agency not an offshoot of NCIS.
There is "no suggestion" that he was investigated himself and it's probably a purely unconnected to him procedure. But it's just another "whiff" around a leading Conservative figure.

I'm going for gone by Monday myself .

Have no doubt he's not as pure as the driven snow, Nadhim looks out for Nadhim. But I do like his no nonsense attitude.

Some of the old 'Daily Mail sad face' pictures of him from before he got into politics are hilarious, and especially the one where he's in his full wide boy open shirt outfit.

He's scubbed up to look like a serious politician these days but you don't have to look far to find the original 'fk load of money' version. Even less effort to find all the ongoing money making stuff - Rishi was a spotless saint by comparison.

I like him. He doesn’t piss about and doesn’t appear to make stuff up on the spot. Politicians can’t win really - they’re either career politicians with no real world experience or in Zahawis case he’s had more hardcore real world experience than 99% of us, and business wise he’s been there and done it many times over. As a PM I think he’d do ok.

A lying property speculator. He backstabbed Boris hours after being appointed Chancellor. (whatever you think of Boris, that's a bit st)

Brilliant.

yes

He's our MP and his nose is so far in the trough he must breathe through his ears. He's in the safest Tory seat in the country and has taken it (and his constituents) for granted ever since he came in.

Oh - Andy - his family were the second richest in Iran before the Shah was deposed and they came over here...his 'real world experience' was supported by Daddy's money, just like Trump...

My MP too.

What he's just made is a cracking manoeuvre. Powerful cabinet position, without being tainted by the current encumbant.

I wouldn't be surprised if his hat goes in the ring and he sweeps into no10 whilst others are still squabbling.

Eh?

He was born in Iraq and lived in Iraq. He's not Iranian.

His family does come from wealth.

"His family had been influential in the country - his grandfather was the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq and his signature appeared on the country's banknotes."

Allegedly his father lost "everything" in a bad business venture once they were in the UK, but NZ still had the money to start a business selling Teletubbies.

Well, most of that is just a load of rubbish. Zahawi is not a Persian name.
Zahawi was born in Iraq, his family fled Baghdad when he was eleven in 1978.

Yep, another liar gets appointed to the cabinet, no change, same as usual.

Apologies...wrong country...I knew they fled here late-70s from that area...assumed it was Iran given the 79 revolution.

He's massively tainted, both by who put him in the job and the many many media appearances he's made covering the boss's arse that got him the reward in the first place.

Maybe it was a tempting offer but with hindsight he would have kept well away from it.

Dark horse, sheer move.

Utter disloyalty and dishonesty.

Given a job by Boris, and stabbed him in the back the next day.

His point stands though, and it's a good one.

Loyal to country not an individual. Would you want it any other way?

Country needs a chancellor. If BoJo is so desperate that he couldn't see that one coming then he's clearly too distracted to be PM.
